Networking: How much should I know?

Hey all,

I would like to start networking with alums from my school. I was just wondering: how much finance stuff should I know before I try to set up informational meetings or something?

Basically, I've followed the WSJ for a bit and know the very basics of finance but I'm not confident enough to discuss the market or give my favorite stock picks or anything.

Should I wait 2-3 weeks to build up my finance knowledge before sending emails and calling or just go for it now?

Thanks!

Most important thing: know your resume and your story. Also, find out a bit about the alum's background.

Just a note: 99% of alumni don't care about you and won't help you during recruiting (as in forwarding your resume). Go into those meetings with a positive attitude, but don't expect too much from them. They aren't your mom and won't care for you.
