New WSO Header Design? Comments Welcome....

So I've been brainstroming on how to make the WSO header cleaner and more web 3.0 since that was one of the suggested improvements to WSO that was put forward from several users.

So I was thinking something like the image attached here (ignore messed up color and red). Basically, if would remove the social icons and search bar, use jquery to bring those up to upper right corner, logo woudl drop down and tile icons would be shorter. The main nav bar would be in the Oasis blue and the search, social share, about, etc woudl be in upper right corner, just like thenextweb.com design.

Thoughts? do you think this is an improvement to clean up the header a bit? Please ignore my shitty paint skills and try to envision it :-) ...larger view here: http://www.wallstreetoasis.com/image/new-wso-headerpng?size=_original

Looks excellent in my opinion, way better. This would also avoid the revenue issue which I agree is a concern with reducing the number of tiles.

One change would be to reduce the tile size slightly so they have more white space around them. Also, still include the tile text so people understand what they are, however this may be due to your excellent paint skills.

yeah, agree they could use a bit more spacing and would need the words included...paint skillz be damned!

Now issue is we have about 40x other things we need to get done and this is a monster since we need to design all tiles, and change wireframe, add in jquery along top, etc... the fun never ends :-)

I've been noticing some problems with threads today, they seem to be resetting as if the OP just posted them constantly. It isn't affecting the comments but it keeps showing them as if they have new comments.

One thing I forgot to mention. We get notifications for new posts on topics and new private messages, is there any way to get notifications for new group posts? I think the groups might get more attention if they did

Update: new logo designed (just "WSO" with wallstreetOasis.com n smaller text below) and new tiles (there will be 8, since have a lot more horizontal space)...the mockups look MUCH MUCH cleaner.

Unfortunately, will likely be 2+weeks of hard work before it's launched...so we're looking like mid July with conference coming up :-)
