No response from HR one week after internship interview= no offer?

Recently, I had applied for a summer internal audit internship position at an asset mgmt. firm in NYC.
I had an interview exactly one week from today and followed up with HR five days after (with no response). It has been one week now, and I'm really anxious about waiting for the results.
Should I just assume that I was not offered a position since accepted candidates are likely to be contacted rapidly because they are highly desirable?
Also, when should I shoot HR another e-mail (I emailed them last friday) without looking too desperate or being bothersome?

I obviously have no concept of what you're working with or what you're comfortable with. However, it might be worth letting them know you need some sort of timeframe. Also who'd you follow up with? Just HR? I messaged all of my interviewers after all of my interviews--someone might respond.

Additionally, if you have contacts inside the company drop them a line and try to figure out what's going on. It's not always reliable (I thought I had a job on lock via insider information but ended up not getting it) but better than nothing.

I got my offer from a top BB a month after and heard nothing after the interview, I've also gotten a rejection same day - so I wouldn't read into it. Follow up and see what see what happens. Seems late for an internship though?
