Not sure exactly what you asking here about how to spend the summer... you mean the summer following your Nomura IBD internship? Your goal should be to kick ass during the Nomura IBD internship and get the opportunity to come back and it again next summer. If you're very unsure of your abilities to land in a more selective program you will accept that offer on the spot, otherwise you can recruit again for IB the next summer.

To phrase this a different way, if you accept Nomura IBD, your foot is already in the door. It's a solid place to end up full time even. It's not Goldman, but it's a very respectable shop.

Apologies if this didn't totally answer your question, I didn't 100% understand what you were asking -- let me know.

Nomura IBD without a question. I did the MS PWM thing way back in the day my sophmore year. I really enjoyed it and ended up doing something similar to PWM in my career. IBD is COMPLETELY different. If you want to do IBD having any form of IBD experience will help you immensely. Not to mention you will easily be able to crush classes in school after going through a 10 week program. Plus who knows...nothing wrong with landing full time at Nomura down the road

Thanks for the insight @jiggider . Is Nomura seen as a respectable player? As in, would being in a top group at Nomura hold me back from opportunities available (both professional or getting an MBA) to people at top BBs or EBs. Just wondering if I should lateral to a different bank in the following summers. I would like to try and lateral, but I'm unsure if I can break into the top banks, seems impossible.

Apologies if I wasn't clear.

I am asking two questions:

  1. How should I spend next summer, if I would like to be competitive at top BBs junior year?

  2. Will being at a top group at Nomura make it impossible to, say, get into a to PE shop or be admitted to HBS? I'm from the mindset of setting my goals high. That way if I come up a bit short I'll still be doing reasonably well.
