Non-Target - Please review my Resume
Hey Guys,
I know I only have a few posts here - but this board has been extremely helpful so far.
I just graduated with a JD/MBA from at T50 school. I would like to pursue a career in corporate strategy/development.
As per the typical career path I am actively applying to associate roles in boutique investment banks, M&A and TS advisory roles at the big 4, VC/PE associate roles, corporate development positions, and a few random legal jobs that pop up every once in a while.
I have attached the resume that I am actively using for those IB, M&A, TS, VC, and PE roles. I'd love your feedback.
So far what people are telling me that it seems somewhat jumbled (i'm sure the black bars don't help) and that in less than 30 or 60 seconds it is hard to gleen what my expertise really is. A few others say I could be more specific in some of my job bullet points.
Without a ton of experience, but with some degrees I am trying to skip over analyst positions and jump right into associate jobs.
Thanks in advance for your feedback.

How did you get in MBA with only one year of experience? Associate in IBD usually means year 4 (or at least 3) if you go straight, if you go lateral, it could take any number of years (or even months).
What feedback are you getting from your applications?
It's Utah...
I appreciate the attempt - but please be more helpful next time BT Banker
A lot of MBA programs will let you in with less experience if you are already accepted to that schools JD program.
During my Sr. year I realized that I loved Finance, but had already been accepted to law school at a number of programs. Not sure still what I wanted to do I decided to talk to all of the schools where I had been accepted for JD and told them I wanted to do MBA. Ended up going where I was basically guaranteed a spot in both programs.
Now that I know what I want to do - I likely would have done things differently (live and learn) - but I do think I bring a lot to the table that others don't have.
Oh - and feedback so far...
Most say "We are almost certain that you are smart enough and completely capable of doing this work - but you don't have enough experience to prove that you can excel at it" or something similar...
Based on your school and the 2 years of volunteer work in Costa Rica I will assume you are LDS. That might be a good place to start networking to get some people to listen to your story. You will really need to sell yourself and having some connections will help in that endeavor. Especially if they will "sponsor" you through the process.
Looks like you might have a tough road ahead, but it can be done. You will have to really work your butt off! Good luck!
Thanks AcctNerd - I'll keep you updated on what happens
You are welcome.
The formatting for "Honors" is not the same in the education section.
Having abbreviations for your degrees appears very informal to me (just my opinion). I would spell them out ton separate lines and have the corresponding GPA by each i.e. Masters of Business Administration, Finance GPA: 3.9 ... and then on the next line Juris Doctor, Law GPA: 3.3. Also, do the same for your "BA"
Your GPA rounding is not consistent.
The way you have the courses listed takes up waaaaay too much room, creates white space, and adds little value for the amount of space. The courses you list are very repetitive, is it really necessary to list Venture Capital Finance, Venture Capital Financing, and Venture Capital? Put the courses in a list and cut out repeat subjects.
Remove you volunteer experience and work experience spanning back to high school from your resume. If you want, put something at the bottom about proficiency in Spanish.
The computer programs you list are overly generic. Knowing these programs should pretty much be implied.
Thank you accrual king - very very helpful!!
How do you get MBA degree in one year experience? I think cause lot of lacking. You must overcome that.
