NYC Summer Intern Housing Thread 2017
Hey Guys,
I will be doing an IB internship this summer in NYC and wanted to start a thread about housing. I was curious what other incoming interns here plan to do for housing. I also thought this would be a good centralized thread for anybody looking for roomates over the summer.
I'll start by saying that I'm thinking about applying to NYU summer housing as a non-affiliated applicant and hopefully I'll get a dorm with close access to the the subway. Feel free to share your thoughts and ideas here!
Do not and I mean DO NOT do the EHS Student Housing. Get your forms in and suck it up at NYU or New School but damn fuck that place. Try to get a cheap summer place because you will only be there for the summer and you want as much money for senior year as possible. Just my advice.
What's wrong with EHS?
One of my friends stayed at EHS for his internship. They had some pretty hilarious policies, like not allowing you to have more than two guests over, or charging after-midnight visitors $5 to get in. Not pre-registering your guests was an additional fee on top of that. I think he mentioned something about having to shell out $25 to the front desk staff every time he got laid.
Personally, I craigslisted a sublet and had a significantly better living experience for much less money than those who stayed in NYU dorms.
Looks like NYU seems like a decent option, looks like I will be going for Carlyle Court with 3 of my buddies. Does anyone have any advice about the process/dorm choice?
Yea I was looking at Carlyle Court and Coral St. as well. Have you also considered New School?
I have not really looked into New School, NYU seems like the well trodden path from people I have spoken with. Is there any reason to consider it over?
Interested as well; Ill be in the FiDi area, any recommendations?
If you're in FiDi, do NYU Lafayette (80 Lafayette, between Chinatown and Tribeca). People complain about NYU housing but its simple and relatively cheap.
When I was interning in NYC, I lived in NYU housing in the East Village. The nice thing about NYU, assuming the policy hasn't changed, is that you can do a week-by-week lease. If I recall, it was ~$400 a week which was fairly reasonable for a short term lease. Some of the other university options I looked at were longer duration leases which just didn't fit my schedule.
Almost everyone that I know that did a summer internship in the city, that didn't commute, did the NYU dorms. Seems to be the default choice.
Where is the best place at NYU if you're working in midtown?
Check out bedly.com! I moved to the city recently for full time but they do short term leases, mostly in the upper east side and brooklyn. Very reasonable prices for short term leases and you get your own bedroom. Apartments come furnished. Really good company.
I will also be doing the NYU summer housing this summer and possibly looking for roommates considering I am not from the area.
Anyone know good spots within NYU that are good for single apartments for summer housing?
Second Street Apts
Anyone have Broome before?
Applied to NYU, literally just asked for "shared bedroom apt. style"...everyone has told me that being on the meal plan is pointless and expensive, and I'd reaaaaly like to not blow all of my earnings on housing this summer
search craigslist. some kids who study in NYC during year will rent their apartments during summer months when home. friends have done NYU and enjoyed experience but were stuck with some weird kids so try to find people you can live with and make note of them on app
Any ladies interested in living with a seasoned trailer park supervisor, dm me
Hey guys - make sure you're strategically located near B Bar in east village. You'll be there a lot. Thx
Someone intern from july to august and is willing to rent a flat with me ? saw some decent 2bedroom options
Just got an offer - anybody still looking for roomates?
same I just got an offer too -- on the lookout rn
