NYU, Duke or Brandeis for MA Econ?
Hi guys, could you guys help me choose between these three programs:
MA Economics at NYU (Accepted)
MA International Economics and Finance at Brandeis (Accepted with significant scholarship)
MA Applied Financial Economics at Duke (Awaiting Decision)
Specifically, I would appreciate if you could comment on each school's academic reputation compared to each other, their recruiting facilities and employment prospects as well as career resources, taking into consideration that I am an international student.
Personally, I'm interested in Financial Economics so I really like the Duke's program but am not so sure about the recruiting there. NYU is preferable in terms of location and prestige, but the program would be less financially oriented. And I just don't know enough about Brandeis but the scholarship made it a lot more attractive.

i would encourage you to pursue the option at NYU, regardless of whether or not you get into duke you haven't listed what industry you're really looking to get into, but NYU has tons of representation in all fields, has a lot of good recruiting programs, and most importantly, is located in new york, which means you can do networking incredibly easily. i would say that you should enroll there, unless financials really prevent you from doing so
i think in terms of financial economics, you should have no problem selecting courses within the department so that you have a more financial track, so i wouldn't worry too much about that

I know its been a while. But could you please tell me which GPA & GRE you had to get accepted for the NYU MA Economics ?
MA programs in the US are for people who did not have the necessary preparation or tools for a PhD. So, if you want a professional degree you might be disappointed at both NYU and Duke. But these two schools have the biggest and best networks when it comes to finance (out of your list). You have to bust ass your ass to get a job for either places in finance because I don't think you would have access to OCR from MA econ. Considering you are international student I would look to NYU because of the networking opportunities it would provide
But here is the thing, the firms that look to hire people from economics hire BA econ for entry level positions and PhD econ for quant and research roles so MA is kinda left out. But going to NYU and if you hustle I can definitely see you getting a job. MA Econ is tough thing to get into so you could have easily went to a solid MiM or a MSF program which prepares you for a professional career rather than an academic one.

Duke Econ shits on NYU CAS Econ. I would take Duke over Stern any day to. Yes, the internship opps and recruiting is good at NYU, but as far as college experience and prestige goes, Duke any day. I go to Stern Undergrad btw.
