NYU Stern to boost my credentials?

I am toying with the idea of applying to NYU Stern - Executive MSc in Risk Management. My goal is to boost my credentials, while having full-time job, for future imployment opportunities for Portfolio Management (long-term goal). I am based in south Europe - goal London, Implied career path - credit analyst -> NYU Stern degree (part-time) -> research / credit rating agency (S&P/Fitch/Moodys) -> PM. Should I get a respected university degree on my CV? I have the impression that the name of university open doors while in any case I have get apprenticeship in PM. I'm a CFA charterholder and have 6+ years as a credit analyst (comm bank). Thanks

Looking at your profile I think that an MBA route would be very appropriate for you:

  • Brand and networks of an MBA is very strong
  • You can concentrate in finance when doing an MBA
  • If you already hold a CFA you do not need a specialty degree but an MBA

Do you get full reimbursement by your current employer? If yes you may go for it, if no, it may be a risky move for you. Good employers would appreciate a good degree and therefore offer reimbursement and support. Else you do not need it anyway or you need to move to another company first where you will be appreciated.

If you do not have an MBA, then get an MBA for sure and you may think of this MSc. at a later stage. In today's world, without an MBA...

Hope that helps a bit
