Oil & Gas and Nat Res in 2016
Hey guys,
I'm wondering what you all think of activity in this space in 2016. With oil prices so low, it seems like M&A activity should see a sharp increase this year. I'm in the process of deciding between groups for SA, so it seems like it would be fun to be covering this industry if action does pick up.
Thanks!
Bump. I've got silver bananas to give for any help!
What's the alternative? Energy will be busy, but volatility means no one knows if deals will close for sure.
^on point. Volatility kills deals. Very few companies are left in an offensive position in terms of deals. They've been calling for an m&a boom since the beginning of 2015. Even a broken clock is right twice a day...
so O&G Rx groups ?
there really aren't any active ones. not sure if the RX would be run out of Houston, anyway. most of the restructuring is small cap right now or OFS. Oddly enough, some law firms have been doing the RX without banks according to news releases.
Ha, this guy is at GS. See you in Backofficeland.
...what? Since when do people working in ops/HR/technology/whatever get to rank industry preferences?
Asset sales
I interviewed with a Natural Resources Investment firm not too long ago. They are saying we are entering a Bear's market, and hiring is on hold for a lot of positions. It's more of a, "let's see what happens," type of ordeal.
O&G Services - Projections and Outlook (Originally Posted: 07/21/2013)
To those of you informed on the topic - what are your thoughts on the outlook of the O&G services industry over the next 5 years?
There seems to be some disagreement over the 2013-18 period in terms of projected revenue CAGR. What do you believe the source of this to be? What are your thoughts regarding the industry generally? Any informed revenue forecasts over the designated period?
curious as well
I'm bullish and will remain bullish on O&G. Go horizontal or go home.
IBIS projects a ~1.4%, and First Research a ~12% CAGR. Any thoughts as to which is correct? Reasons for disparity?
I'm bullish on it as well. Fracing is at capacity right now, but will be in demand for quite a long time as conventional plays are falling off. Drilling, I'd suggest looking at international guys that could be good takeover targets as there's just way too many rigs in NA these days, considering multi well pads and horizontal drilling.
Personally, I like services more than producers, but I'm also not an expert per se.
Oil&Gas Industry Outlook and Themes please - will SB! (Originally Posted: 07/19/2015)
Hi everyone, recently started my equity research internship. I'm trying to get my hands on industry outlook reports on oil&gas, so as to narrow down investment themes and trends.
I'm due to pitch several stocks in the oil&gas sector and the presentation will decide the outcome of my work placement. WIll appreciate and SB for any oil&gas industry outlook/themes or research reports or any helpful resources. Thanks a bunch.

Look around the EIA website. Assuming the focus will be on domestic production/ shale plays I would also look at oilandgasinvestor.com as they have a 7 day free trial. As someone who just started an internship as a energy research associate, the hardest part was and still is just getting used to the terminology and jargon in the industry.
