Opportunity of a LIFEtime

Hey guys,

I am a sophomore at a good school, top 15 but non target. I am looking to do trading post college and have an internship in financial services.

Through a personal connection of mine, I am set to fly to New York and meet with the owner and CEO of a large hedge fund (think 20-30 billion AUM). He has indicated that there are not internships available at his firm, but he thinks he can help.

How would you play this conversation? This guy has been around awhile, has plenty of other things he could be doing, but is willing to sit down with me.

I can't mess this one up.

Just be open minded and willing to learn. Make sure you are well put together and polite as well. Remember, while you are there to showcase your presence, you are mainly there to learn. So shutup and listen to him.

What not to do.. do NOT act like you know everything and do not interrupt him when he is trying to tell you something. Also do not be narrow-minded in what you want to ultimately do. Tell him honestly.. you aren't very interested in trading, but some experience couldn't hurt. You'd really like to learn more about what research analysts do, etc.

You're right, this is a great opportunity. Just don't act like a jackass and you'll be fine.

Rothyman, thank you for the quick response (I appreciate it).

I actually am interested in trading, and I hope to guide the conversation to a firm he could refer me to? They all want his business obviously, so do you think that could help?

Obviously, I want to know what his firm does, but I agree on being totally honest and just interested in learning.
