PE Asset Management/ FoF / Consulting - Career Path

Recently finished undergrad and accepted an offer at a PE Asset Management firm. Hoped to work on a team doing PE secondaries or co-investments (transaction based work), but ended placed on a team doing manager due diligence. While the work is interesting with a ton of exposure, I am worried I am wasting my time developing skills that will not help me when I want to move into a more transactional role (PE/Banking/Corp. Dev). I do have substantial modeling skills, but I worry not using them in my current role will dilute their value in the eyes of recruiters/hiring managers.

It has only been a few months, so I wonder if it would be a mistake to look to move into a transaction-based role now, or is the sooner the better?

Appreciate any feedback,

You definitely want to ask to work on more transactional related stuff, such as secondaries or co-investments. The longer you're doing manager selection, or "FoF work", the less credible your technical skills/abilty become. At that point moving into secondaries could still be an option, but going into direct PE become virtually impossible in my view.
