PE Real Estate guy - Coming into industry from Construction side
Hello! I am pumped to get going in this new industry. I had my eye on this for a while. Got a BSc in 08 and started working in commercial contracting as a project engineer up to the project manager level managing large commercial projects. I knew I always wanted to work on the Owner side and more specifically working for owners that deploy institutional type funds for commercial projects.
Anyway, my current position is heading up the construction and development for a PERE firm. My skiillset is perfect for this position, as you can't have anyone not from the construction side in this role.
I am VERY interested in hearing about similar stories from people who have gotten into the industry from the less routine routes, such as the good school, top internship, analyst, associate, mba route.
Obviously the only way I got in was because of my specific skillset and I am working at a PE Real Estate firm specifically in lieu of a typical financial PE firm.
I am hoping to connect with others and learn more about the industry. I am interested in learning how I could 'better' myself, if I should get an MBA etc to move up the structure.
Glad to be on board
