Performance Analyst Exit Opps

Hey Guys,

I have the opportunity to interview at a Chicago shop for a Performance Analyst role. The following are some of the job specs:

-Calculating, analyzing, and reporting portfolio, security, and benchmark performance
-Preparing and explaining attribution analysis
-Preparing and organizing risk and return data for client reports and prospective client presentations
-Assisting with maintenance of firm strategy composites and preparation of Global Investment Performance Standards (GIPS)-compliant performance presentations
-Responding to ad-hoc requests from Portfolio Managers and the Marketing team
-Performing quality checks of other team members’ work to ensure accuracy

My question is what would be the exit opportunities for this type of work? My long term goal is to break into ER on either the buy or sell side. Is this something that would help pave the path? I am already going through the CFA (on level II), have financial modeling skills, etc. Should I hold out and try to break into an associate role? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks!
