Do BB reject final candidates through email or phone call?
For those who failed before final-round, probably they'd get the rejection news through an email, but what about the very few who made it to the final, will BB reject them through a phone call/ an email?
And normally will they reject the final candidates after having hired someone? or will they reject them on the same day they give the offer to someone else?
Thanks
Based on what i have seen and heard, both email and phone are used (one or the other depending on bank and circumstance). Banks usually provide outright rejections quickly and wait for successful candidates to accept or decline offers before notifying 'maybe' candidates.
Does it matter?
And in any case, some will call you, some will email and some just won't get back to you at all.
Are rejections typically e-mailed or told over the phone? (Originally Posted: 02/21/2011)
Just wondering...
Carrier pigeon actually.
I had two Blackrock interviews over a week ago thru OCR and still haven't heard anything, had a final round at PE 1.5 weeks ago and basically know I'm on hold, and still waiting to hear over a week from fidelity...
typically e-mailed for first round but after a superday usually a call (or nothing)
I think it varies. One thing that I have noticed is if it is a call rejections are form HR and offers are from someone you interviewed with.
Here's my personal situation:
Interviewed two Friday's ago at Fidelity. Got a call-back last Friday late-in-day but was on a phone interview at the time and didn't get off until after 5pm and recruiter was out of office. Recruiter left vm and included her cell number but has not returned call yet, probably because it's President's Day today. Got a reply last Monday to a thank you letter I sent to VP I interviewed with which said the recruiter "should be in touch soon with next steps."
Any thoughts on the likelihood of an offer? I didn't think the interviews went very well but this seems positive, right? I'll know within 24 hours but want the position so badly that I'm getting a bit anxious.
in some thread somebody said he got his Lazard rejection mailed in an envelope.............
on a serious note though it really depends on the firm, but usually they are willing to talk to you and provide some feedback, at least if you make it past round 1.
emails if at all.
on hold or offer, they'll call
4 years in--many successful and failed job searches.
Order of likelihood (all have happened to me at one point):
1) Nothing at all 2) Email 3) Phone rejection
Often times an email is a form letter from HR. Those are the worst, but at least they let you know in that instance.
Whether it's phone, email, or mail, ask yourself this question: What's the difference?
The decision's been made, and you can't do anything about it. So chill out and go have a beer.
On a side note, HR left me a VM once for call back, only to get rejected...
True. Had the final round at Morgan Stanley (full-time trading) and they never got back to me. That's just insulting! You pass two rounds, go to the final and you can't even get a feedback. Called them, told me they'd call me back. Never did. Fukc'em!
And usually it's the same. Otherwise it's by email. The only bank that called me what GS to reject me. Had a voicemail telling "i have a feedback for you, call me back". Called her, told me "you didn't pass, thank you for calling". Fukc you too!
I cant believe such large, well established banks just say absolutely nothing after interviews. You pass through the rounds, just dreaming about what the job is going to be like, make it to a superday and they refuse to even send you an email that takes 30 seconds to send to a dozen rejected candidates. All the while ignoring calls/emails and making these kids still think they have a chance
Phone or Email Acceptances/Rejections (Originally Posted: 03/01/2011)
Hey WSO, I had an interview last week and was told they'd start giving out offers after a week so I'm a little bit on my toes and keep my cell with me at all times. I was wondering how companies say the outcome, through phone or through email?
If I had to guess I'd say they would phone if you have an offer and email if you are rejected, but I'm really not sure.
For an offer, phone is definitely the norm.
For a rejection, the default is often no response (which sucks for the candidate) but varies from firm to firm.
I've not heard of firms not responding (well not BB banks in reference to graduate schemes).
OP it varies bank to bank. If it was a final round interview (with a BB) most call for an offer. Some call to reject, some email. But if its the final round you are usually entitled to feedback by the firm (in the case of most companies running graduate schemes).
note - this is for the UK, but I'd imagine it would be the same worldwide.
U.S. -
Always received offer via phone. Rejected via email or phone. Never not heard back after an interview.
To add to my early comment, when I say it varies from firm to firm I should mention the size of the firm matters. If it's a large firm, it has an HR group that has spelled out procedures for offers and rejections. Smaller firms are much looser when it comes to hiring procedures - that's where you will often hear nothing unless you ask.
Regardless, it can't hurt to call or email your primary contact at the company to follow-up if you haven't heard anything.
The waiting is definitely the worst part. Good luck.
Thanks for the feedback fellas
EDIT: Just another question - what if they call and I'm not able to pick up the phone, even if they call again an hour later.
They can potentially reject you over voicemail, but would likely also tell you to call back whenever you get a chance
ah, ended up getting a rejection through email
Where did you interview if you dont mind me asking
