Places to work in Baltimore

I am currently a undergrad at UMBC and majoring in Financial Econ. I was wondering does anybody know places around here that recruit? I know my school is not a "feeder school" but its worth a shot looking into some places.

Thanks for the replies guys! I should i said I live Silver Spring which is around 15 mins from DC. I live on campus in Baltimore though! Are there a lot of firms in DC?

There are quite a few small investment banks in DMV area. Some regionals such as BB&T Capital Markets (virginia area), Stifel (baltimore), some PE firms (Sterling Partners, Carlyle), VC FoF/Funds. Also see FBR Capital Markets. Big 4 firms all have tyson corner offices and probably baltimore offices. Than you have Legg Mason + T Rowe. Keep in mind DC area is really where the heart of federal consulting, audit, tax is (obviously), so if you are interested in public sector consulting, etc. DC is great.

Stifel and M&T Bank (I think) are based there. Deutche Bank also has a presence due to their acquisition of Alex Brown. There are a number of boutiques in the area as well including one that specializes in sports (I found that really interesting).

Also, if you are looking in Baltimore you might as well expand your search to D.C. as well since its only an hour away.

Like, I said, the site is great, and Im sure you guys will explode sooner or later, because there is a real demand for the info some of you bring to the table.

I believe these may be the only IB's in the Baltimore/DC area. I know there are a good number of PE shops and Hedge Funds, but not sure about IB.

Ive been with my girlfriend since freshman year of highschool (7 years total, we've busted up once or twice but nothing too major).

She's an Elementary Eduaction Major, her parents are old, and she has no desire to relocate. I respect that, so I have pretty much taken relocating off the table.

Plus, Im not sure if my profile is compeititve enough for IB. Im very confident during the interview process; Ive actually never been turned down after receiving an interview. Landing the initial interview is where my problem lies. My school is accredited by the AACSB, but still far from being a target school. I believe that is my major flaw.

Im actually interning with T. Rowe Price this summer in a back office position and Im hoping that will open a couple doors for me. At the same time, Im worried I may Pigeonhole myself into a position I have no desire to pursue after graduation. I most definitely want something in the front office realm. IB and S/T are where my primary interest lie.

Thanks again for the response.

There is no reason you can't get an i-Banking job if you really want one. This job market is pretty good for i-Bankers now -- when I was graduating in 2002, I had to interview w 30 banks to get 1 offer, and I consider myself a decent interview w good creds. You have to try and network, instead of just dropping your resume everywhere. (alums?, iBanking conferences, etc -- don't be shy)

You'd be surprised how open people are to allowing a kid to interview is he/she is really enthusiastic. Tell them you've done a lot of research for the position, you understand the hours can be brutal, but you think that your work ethic and desire would make you an excellent analyst.

On another note, if you've been with your woman since freshamn year of highschool, she must be expecting a ring sometime soon, right? You have to ask yourself, are you ready for that? If not, why are limiting your career choices at age 22 (or about)? Can't she do education anywhere? schools are everywhere, i-Banks are not. Make sure she's a "giver" and willing to compromise or you will have one long marriage ahead of you.

Would she relocate for you if you got a great i-Banking gig in NYC? If she loves you, I say she would. Plus, you're not THAT far from DC. She could go down to see her folks every month or so.

-My 2 cents.
