Best books for learning about the financial markets and the stock market

Hey,

I am looking to learn more about financial markets and about the trading world.
What books would you recommend. I know very little/nothing about it right now.
I am currently reading Freefall by J. Stiglitz, but it talks alot about the crash.
I would like to know how they work, why stock prices shift etc.

thanks

"How to make money in Stocks" by the guy who started IBD (paper). If you really want to learn about it in a more practical / interesting way, subscribe to IBD and read that paper instead of reading about abstract theories, etc. you can see it applied to live markets and companes you have heard of. It is a little expensive (relative to say, WSJ) but well worth it. Great cartoons too :)

Honestly, you should start with the WSO FAQs.

"For I am a sinner in the hands of an angry God. Bloody Mary full of vodka, blessed are you among cocktails. Pray for me now and at the hour of my death, which I hope is soon. Amen."
