Please help- Im lost
I got offered an Finance Internship with a F50 company and I start work there in a month, I know once I start there, I wont be able to network anymore. I really want to intern in NY this summer in any finance capacity.what firms should I apply to or are still recruiting. from a non target btw
Why would you not be able to network while working at a F50 company? Do emails & phone calls not count as networking? That being said, I would go and use google to create a list of firms in NYC that you can apply to (not that hard). I understand I'm not spoon feeding you a list of firms, but if you really wanted to work in NY, you would compile a list on your own.
Cannot really make phone calls working 40 hours
This is a strange attitude to take if you want to get into finance anywhere, never mind in New York...
...
wow.... you've got to be fucking kidding me. Get the fuck outta here.
Have you worked 40 hours/week before? It's not that hard to make calls and send emails. Have you thought about making calls during your "lunch" break for even 15 minutes or maybe before/after work? I've had calls with bankers in NY past 7:00pm because they are so busy. Trust me, its very much possible. But I agree with you that an internship in NYC is convenient since you can network with them in person.
I am also taking into account not being able to go to superdays, so I have to lock in something now. (are you a non target btw) ?
Like @h3gdehog said you'll be able to make calls while you're at work and after hours easily. And if you need to interview I'm sure you'll be able to take a day off here and there. It's an internship. They'll most likely understand and it's not as if you're cheating on them and have to lie about interviewing for another gig. They expect you to leave.
You can always make an excuse to go to superdays... How do you think IB analysts recruit for the buyside? These guys work 80-100 hours/week and still find time to network and interview. If you already have a F50 internship lined up that starts in a month, just start it and slap that puppy on your resume (talk about what you may potentially work on). Then use that to boost your chances for interviews when looking for alternative opportunities in NY. Don't sweat it. Just start to compile that list like I said.
To answer your question, yes I am/was a non target.
OP, I worked 40 hours last summer with a 1 hour commute, while taking 2 summer courses (7 credits), and I networked by ass off. Sounds like you're either being a huge puss, or you're just not cut out for it.
did you live in ny, I dont live in ny
