Poker: playing ~3m hands from now until the end of the year on PokerStars

Don't post here much but I know some are interested in poker. I'm doing a challenge where I'm going to hit 2.5m player points on PokerStars (nearly 4m total hands) for the year. Right now I'm at 700k points.

This is going to mean playing for about 16 hours/day for the rest of the year (IB-esque) w/ about 10 days where I can do only 12 hours. I'm playing mostly $1-2 through $5-10 NL Holdem 6max games.

So far I've been struggling with the hours (waking up late, breaks taking too long) and the poker (this has been my worst month ever so far).

This begs the obvious question...why? Go outside dude, you are wasting the last truly unencumbered period of your life.

It appears his reasoning is so he can make money. If you follow the link he posted its for another web forum and after reading through some of the post, it appears that he is trying to find people to gamble on whether or not he will be able to complete the challenge, thus proving that people will bet on anything.

because in a whole year this isn't that difficult of a thing to pull off but i was lazy for the beginning of the year and went on vacation for 2 months in the middle, so i'm trying to make up for it and there's no turning back now

In no way does that answer the question "Why are you going to waste the rest of your year by pulling banker hours on an online poker site?"

As a fairly serious poker player myself, this sounds like probably the most irrelevant goal ever. Why not set yourself a PnL target and play as much as it takes to get there... your goal just encourages you to play more and more hands regardless of whether or not you are succeeding or improving your game. Why not save some time and meet a girl/get drunk/enjoy life. If I could do college again I would have spent zero time playing online poker and made fewer trips to foxwoods.

Also, if you are consistently profitable at 5-10; don't bother with finance unless you are just chasing the prestige or want a safety net. Just be aware you wont have much time to play if/when you do sign up.

He shortstacks so its less about poker development and more about grinding out hands. With all the VPP bonuses he stands to make a good amount if he puts in the hands, even if he breaks even.

Anyways GL Chis, you are a sicko.

sleepless: setting profit goal for year is stupid. why would i not play as much as possible to maximize profits instead of stopping after i hit target X? same applies in trading i'm sure.

tripster: 2.5 is 300ish w/ all bonuses and stuff and i've been sucking but still doing better than breakeven
