Possible to break in to trading with no prior/relevant experience?
I live in Chicago and I'm curious if this is possible. 2+ years in FP&A type roles.
If so, what type of comps would I be able to get in to and what could I expect to earn? I know Chicago is pretty good for this market...
Please PM me if you have insight.
You could be a trading assistant to start and then from there move to a trader.
I'm currently making 60k-80k. An assistant doesn't sound like they would be making at least that... Should I be searching for other options? I.E. not a trader?
It really depends on the firm and how much the job entails. That's what I'm doing now and I don't make that much, but I have seen job postings for some that do make that much, although this is NYC not Chicago.
Sometimes you need to go backwards to go forwards though, so just keep an open mind.
Why would you expect to make the same amount you're making at a job you've done for 2 years (and hopefully mastered) vs. one in which you have no experience? What is your end goal? Unclear as it seems like trading is just a passing fancy given you are already asking about others options.
