Pre MBA Finance Hiatus?

Currently working in a FO AM role that I really like. Think this is probably what I want to do long term. I want to get an MBA after ~4 years of work to help out down the road since I went to an unknown undergrad, but I'm thinking about leaving finance for a few years before the MBA. Is this crazy?

I've always had an affinity for international politics and while I do not want a career in politics I would enjoy spending 2-3 years working in an international relations role pre MBA. I feel like this is the only time in my life I could do something like this so why not? Is this crazy or is it going to hurt my MBA apps / hurt me when I try and get back into the industry I'm already in?
