Previous equity research associate in asia trying to get into trading room

Hi guys,

I guess there would be quite some similar topics around but I hope to shed some light on the issue for fresh grads from other countries.

I come from Taiwan, graduated from college last summer and worked as an equity RA in a BB. However, the bank pulled its majority from Asia start of 16' and basically most of the people working there were let go.

After the turmoil I wanted to transfer my career path to the trading room as I felt it suited more with my character. After quite some interviews with the other IBs in sales/trading/trading assistant positions nothing turned out as most hirings were frozen some time after the lengthy interview process. While the hiring markets were really bad since then in Taiwan a lot of seniors I spoke with told me to strive to stay in the market, so after four months I took a job at a local house as a FINI futures sales trader.

Problem here is that I absolutely hate my job now.

I understand that attitude is still the key to all that and there's definitely a ton for me to learn. But after my brief stay at my previous job there's a lot to adjust to in my current one. The people, the environment, the firms position in the futures market, I could go on and on about the ridiculous things I see here (e.q. one of the colleagues who on boarded with me worked in fortune telling as her last job which my boss here so delightedly mentioned in the monthly meetings) but I would really appreciate any advice to get myself back on track.

Some relevant info:

I go to one of the two better universities that Ibs in Taiwan usually recruit from (but still unknown to the rest of the world) , majored in economics and started doing internships since freshman year.

I usually get interviews when there's an opening (except for a dealer position in an IB which they said they didnt want anyone from BO or research) but for the past half year most of the positions were frozen due to hiring freeze and the rest said they needed someone with prior experience.

Hiring markets are really bad now for juniors as there are rarely any openings at IBs here at all and also compared to what it was like last year.

I applied for numerous positions out of Taiwan but never got interviews.

Will update when more is needed.

Question:

Should I continue to wait for openings in IB trading room and in the meantime get what I can out of my current job?

Or should I try applying for a masters degree and try out grad programs directly overseas? (I have US citizenship)

Any advice would be really helpful, thanks guys!

TLDR: I'm in Taiwan, was an equity RA for couple months, wants to get into trading room after office close but hiring markets suck now.
