Private Equity Internship Interview
I have an interview for an internship at small private equity firm next week. I wanted to know what I will be expected to know and how I should prepare for the interview. Also what do undergrads typically do during a private equity internship.
How big is the PE firm in terms of AUM and # of employees? Does the firm typically take interns?
Bump in a similar position and would appreciate help.

I have an interview for a SA spot at a MM PE fund coming up. I'm a little curious how much this private equity interview would differ from a standard IB internship interview? anyone have any insight?
From my experience, they are very similar in terms of technical questions. One notable thing about the PE internship interview was when I was ask to choose a company to invest in from a set of similar companies. They wanted to see if you could form a credible investment idea using key finance concepts and industry knowledge.
good luck!

I am a student at a top uni in continental Europe with an upcoming first round interview for an infrastructure focused PE fund (summer intern role). I'm wondering if anyone has any tips for me before my interview as I'm not too familiar with the PE recruiting process especially for Bachelor's students. Things recruiters might look for in particular knowing I'm only a 2nd year student? Should I expect a lot of technical questions or more fit questions?
Prepare for standard banking questions and take extra time to properly understand the lbo model. Also, understand what makes a good LBO opportunity.
Edit: Also prepare for fit questions. Why private equity? Why this firm? What's your strengths and weaknesses? Etc.
Thanks much appreciated

Hello all,
A bit about myself - 4th year electrical engineering major interviewing for a MM PE firm.
I have experience in large aerospace companies as an engineer, and also interned at a very small hedge fund doing a lot excel.
I am not too familiar with the PE interviews for undergrad intern. Can anyone give me some tips on how to prepare for it?
It's a PE firm that focuses on high growth companies.
Thanks a lot
Unlike my ib interviews... my PE interviews always involved at least one case interview, so I would be prepared for that.

thanks for the comment.
I am just familiar with the ib interviews. Is PE testing the same kind of skills?
PE Internship Interview Case Study (Originally Posted: 12/20/2013)
Hey guys. I have a 2nd round interview for a private equity internship that has a case study. The case study consists of a 3 page presentation/powerpoint and an in face interview.
The prompt of the case is to discuss an industry sub-segment in environmental services, healthcare, security or telecommunications to invest in and why, a specific company within that sub-segment that might be a good target, and what strategies and tools used to develop my conclusions.
The example I was given was industry- food manufacturing, sub segment- chicken processing, company- Perdue Farms
I have no experience in private equity, so I was wondering if you guys could help me figure out a way to approach this. Also, what tools or websites would you guys recommend to do research? I tried searching a bit, but I'm still pretty lost on how to approach this prompt so sorry if this topic has been covered.

So I've been able to find some companies worth checking out based on the company's investment criteria, but for these private companies is there a way to get their financial reports? I kept finding this side called PrivCo that has the reports, but it costs around $100. Also, Hoover's does not have the information for some of the companies I found. Any suggestions or advice in general would be appreciated.
I worked on something similar to this a couple of weeks back, same for a 2nd round of a PE internship as well. Jec helped a lot with that (thanks Jec!)
Use comps to assist you in obtaining the financials you need and also as Jec suggests, you could perform your analysis on a small to mid-cap company.
Do this on a small / mid-cap public company.
Winter PE Analyst Interview (Originally Posted: 08/01/2017)
Over the past few weeks, I've been emailing back-and-forth with an MD from a local PE firm near my home city. He has recently agreed to discuss possible Winter internship opportunties over an early (7:00am) breakfast later this month. Given the location (local resturante), I doubt I will be directly tested over technicals, but beyond that I'm not sure what else to expect / not expect.
Additionally, I've been working in a non-finance internship this summer (computer related) and I'm assuming this will come up at some point or another.
I'm also unsure what I should wear. This isn't a "formal" in-office interview, but I obviously want to still appear presentable.
Any suggestions on how to approach this?
You can't go wrong with possibly over dressing and wearing a tie, but since it is so early I think a suit without the tie would be appropriate too

I have just landed a PE internship interview. I am currently in undergrad and seeking options in IB, but just happened to find this opportunity. Does anyone have any interview prep tips, that are significantly different than the interview prep for IB? Help me out if you can...Thanks.
Be prepared to discuss how you'd choose companies to invest in, what you'd look for, what industries are attractive right now, why you like public/private companies, etc. They may give you informal cases and ask about what you think about a certain company based on what they tell you. Make sure you read up on the fund and what their focus and investment strategy is.
Good advice from craig. In my past PE interviews, case interviews are very common. Also got more brainteasers in PE interviews than in IB interviews. Nonetheless, be prepped for the standard IB tech and fit interview questions, there is a lot of overlap.
Thank you very much gents. I'll keep that in mind in my preperation.
