Profile review for HBS 2+2

Hi all,

Couldn't get many informations on 2+2 profile reviews that might help me.
I saw that HBS has recently opened the 2+2 to Master's programs graduates.

Profile :
Male, 21 yo (22 by the time I graduate with a 2-years Master's)
French - Caucasian (I think it's important to HBS)

Undergrad:
Political Science Major in top 1 French School for PoliSci (probably considered top 5 European). GPA equivalent ~3.7

1 year exchange program at target (or semi-target ?) American college, average GPA 3.76

Grad:
2 years master's in International Security, double minor in Energy and Russia/CIS. GPA equivalent 3.7

Internships:
1 month research assistant in a center for international studies

5 months part-time internship at a corporate Foundation doing research and monitoring on international politics/defense

5 months in the leading European aerospace/defense company working on strategy (mostly trends & intelligence analyst job)

Extracurricular :

Playing a European sport (team handball) in official competition since I'm 10

As a grad student, group manager on a student project in direct link with the French defense industry (study + presentation of the findings)

I'm trying to get a leadership position at my school's student-managed international relations review for this year

GMAT soon to be taken, currently scoring 740ish on practice tests

Languages : French, English, Russian

Career goal/justification for the 2+2 : really into international relations and defense, got into the industrial side while in grad school (student project + courses + internships). Want to make the bridge to the sector to work on the business side of strategy.

Any idea of my chances of getting accepted ?

Thanks !

You have an international background and you are not from the finance industry so your chances might be not too bad. Make sure to score well on GMAT and write stellar application. What are other places you are looking at?

I'm mostly looking at Master's in Europe other than the 2+2. I just figured, since I'm already taking the GMAT and IELTS, the 2+2 application is "only" $100.. Might as well try it !

My recommandations would be 1 teacher and my current superviser (VP at Global 500 company).

Hello all, I am taking a short break after the crush of first-round HBS applications. I see quite a few of you have applied, and I wish you all good luck. MIT Sloan is up next, just for those who pay attention to these things.

I'd like to let Dee Leopold, head of HBS admissions, weigh in on the 2+2 program for you. She's given a number of webinars on admissions, and I transcribed her first 2013 presentation, which answers a very important question on the 2+2 program. Here it is

Q: Are the qualifications for a 2+2 applicant different than for a regular applicant?

Dee Leopold: Qualifications is probably a word I wouldn’t use, but I would say that as we evaluate college seniors, rising seniors, obviously we are evaluating you relative to other people in that cohort, I would say that when we are admitting the 2+2 group we have fewer data points in which to assess your fit, the likelihood of you thriving here, the likelihood of you benefitting from this degree then we do for someone who’s been out 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 years.

So I would say that our academic hurdle is rock solid for 2+2 candidates. It’s not a particular hurdle, but we are looking for people who have done very well academically . Remember, if you’re applying from “the real world” with X number of years of doing absolutely top-rate professional work, let’s say in an analytical field, that can very easily be more compelling for us and offset some problems you might have had as an undergraduate in coursework. But again with the 2+2 cohort, we need to pay particular attention to your academic record.

So, grades and scores really matter. The program is very very small, much more selective than the regular program. Having said that. There is no stigma to not getting into 2+2 and reapplying after some years of meaningful work experience.

Finally, do note that 2+2 had a summer admissions round, so if you do apply this year, say in January, that would be considered round 3.

Thank you for your answer.

However how do you define "people who have done very well academically" ?

The American college I attended for a year was Johns Hopkins and I got a 3.76 GPA there, if that can help you.
