Prospects for Fall Recruiting
Hey monkeys, haven't been on that long but thought I'd jump in and ask for some advice. I am a junior at a mid-level non-targeted state school in Texas studying Management. I transferred in with a 3.0 GPA and hope to bring it up to a 3.2 by this semester, but I have a 3.8 major GPA. I have managing experience but no professional work experience or internships. I am going to study abroad this summer but that's about the only standout on my résumé.
I know I don't have a shot for MBB right now, but what sort of chance do I have for second tier firms or bigger boutiques? What can I do in the time I have before the Fall recruiting season to make myself a better candidate?
Start networking immediately. Before you start though, know that at this stage in the game and in your case (Junior, non-target, less-than-stellar grades), it is going to be damn near impossible. You won't have been networking for long enough and your resume won't really stand out among the kids with better grades from targets or the kids from non-targets with better grades + been networking since Freshman year.
Definitely start networking! I am from the Dallas/Arlington/Fort Worth area and there are a lot of energy/boutique firms. Try cold calling small firms with no structured internship program and reach out to alumni or anyone willing to take your call.
