Psychology in the boardroom
Hello,
I am new to the forum and want to ask two questions:
Firstly, I am a VP trying to get a promotion. At this level there is a rather large 'bottleneck' and I am trying everything to succeed.
One thing I have came across is (for want of a better phrase) psychology in the boardroom. For example, last week I shaved all my (top) hair off with the idea that I would look more 'serious'. I didn't expect any results. I was wrong. Keeping clean and not having a neck beard is common sense, but shaving my hair has made a difference to my PERCEIVED performance. I believe this is beyond 'looking presentable', but has still made a difference. I was shocked and want to employ more techniques.
I am not overweight but would gaining some muscle help?
Loafers with bigger heels? (I am 5'6")
I currently use contact lenses, but glasses of a certain style?
I am open to any suggestion, no matter how 'silly' (unless it is a joke).
Secondly, above some peoples names it says 'monkey' and 'human'. Is this a 'forum ranking system' or a joke? I am unsure.
Thank you.
I shall let you know how much each technique has changed my 'perceived performance' in weekly intervals, as other people reading the forum may be of benefit.
If there is an existing forum topic that I am unaware of that is similar, then I would appreciate a link directing me to it.
Thank you.
Kind Regards,
Fermium3.
maybe you should carry a toy gun that looks real? point it at people when they don't listen to your every demand
Trust me, this is 100% bullshit. It has nothing to do with how you look and everything to do with how you carry yourself. Some of the most formidable, well-respected, and highly regarded managers or board members I have ever come across are short stubby little men with big ugly mustaches and terrible fashion sense, but they're pit bulls. Confidence is literally everything when it comes to moving a room.
Agreed. Confidence will make or break you, your career, your marriage, and the opportunities that are presented to you in this life. I work with a lot of smart people who do amazing things behind computers, but a lot of them are not confident. All the managers I've ever worked with have one thing in common: They trust themselves -- which is why they are trusted to manage others. Confidence translates into trust on some level and makes people feel more secure about themselves, their work performance, and the overall team they are working on.

HOW TO LOOK YOUR BEST:
Make sure you're on a balanced diet and a rigorous exercise routine (at least 1000 stomach crunches, preferably after getting up in the morning).
Buy an ice pack to reduce puffiness around the eyes in the morning. You'll see the world through fresh new eyes every day!
In the shower, use a 1. deep pore cleanser lotion (body), 2. water activated gel cleanser (body), 3. honey almond body scrub (body), 4. exfoliating gel scrub (face) numbers indicate order in which to apply each
When getting out of the shower, apply a herb mint facial mask, which you leave on for 10 minutes.
After shaving, always use an after shave lotion with little to no alcohol, cause alcohol dries your face out (makes you look older). Then apply moisturizer, and then an anti-aging eye balm, followed by a moisturizing protective lotion.
As for clothing: Suit: Ermenegildo Zegna, Valentino, Ralph Lauren Shirt: Brooks Brothers, Ralph Lauren Tie (silk): Valentino Couture, Armani, Christian Dior Shoes: Salvatore Ferragamo, A. Testoni Glasses: Oliver Peoples, horn-rimmed Watch: Rolex Submariner Suspenders A good raincoat: generic, preferably see-through
Good luck OP
And don't forget to make a "res" at Dorsia on a Friday night.
lmaooo... +1 for identifying who it sounds like, -2 for not knowing it was actually him

What rv said is pretty spot on. Invite friends over and listen to Huey Lewis & the News
