I worked on this potential deal for over a month contemplating different structures and working through an lbo model. Our client was outbid so the deal died.
I worked a lot on this and did some pretty interesting analysis. The transaction was announced, could I put the name of the Company on my resume and indicate that we didn't actually execute, but put all the analysis I had done until that point?

One option would be to do it on a no-name basis and claim it as in-process. I'm guessing you haven't been on many deals and are looking for a way to elaborate on your experience. For example label it as Consumer Goods Company or Mobile Payments Company, whatever is relevant, write what you do and list the status as either "lost bid" or "in-process." If you go with "in-process," it's not explicitly honest as the part of the process it is in would be labeled as dead, but no one can call you out on it that way if it's not a named company, and it allows you to get your experience from that deal on paper, which is the real intent.
