PwC Deal Strategy Consulting vs PwC Corporate Finance

I am stuck deciding on which service line to apply for at PwC, based upon exit-opps for either lateraling into a BB, (if I am lucky) PE, top B-School

PwC Deal Strategy

  • Advise companies on potential take over targets to meet their strategic objectives
  • Advise PE firms on good markets to invest in
  • Do Commercial Due Dillgence (CDD) on transactions

"Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A) Strategy – a leader in its field, advises private equity houses, debt financing banks and companies undertaking M&A on investment opportunities. We evaluate business plans and strategies against market performance and competitor strength to help clients understand which companies are attractive acquisitions and how much to pay."

PwC Financial Advisory/corporate finance

  • Advise on transactions

    "Mergers & Acquisitions
Advice on buying, selling, structuring capital and debt raising
    Public to Private transactions
Deal origination, debt raising and financial modelling
    Private Equity
Deal origination and execution, negotiating finance, exit planning and structuring
    Public Company Advisory
Advice on: Initial Public Offerings (IPOs), capital raising, timing and tactics, hostile offers and bid defence"

My dilemma as such is that the corporate finance role is the one that is most comparable to investment banking. But Deal Strategy sounds interesting and could potentially open the door to consulting as a back up and with the exposure to PE could mean getting into one of the firms that I advise to.

No this is for the UK.

Over here Big4 recruiting has been open since July for apps but doesn't start until next month so I am debating which role to apply for at PwC.

I am graduating from a UK target (Warwick) in 2013 so I think either role I could get a fair shot at. I am torn between what could be more relevant experience and what could potentially be better a better experience. Ideal career goal is PE so I think I might need to lateral into a BB then go to the buyside, but the the exposure to PE firms in M&A Strategy is a big draw.
