Quantitative Economics in the Finance World
Hi Everyone,
How does the finance industry look upon Quantitative Economics students? Meaning, will there be a disadvantage, advantage, or distinction, for college undergraduates who decided to major in Economics instead of Finance?
I am a junior year undergraduate student at the University of Connecticut who is majoring Economics and minoring in Mathematics, with a decent GPA (3.50 out of 4.00). Additionally, I have completed two years of language courses in Chinese Mandarin, and I am in the process of obtaining my certificate in Quantitative Economics.
I am currently a Marketing Manager for a new private company based out of Boston, MA, and a Video Production Associate for the UConn Athletics Department. In the past, I have worked at Costco Wholesale in the Major Sales department.
I wish to eventually break into the finance industry. I have been applying for summer finance internships - waiting for responses. Due to personal issues (living independently since 17 years old, and financing college through work and savings), I did not have an opportunity to apply for internships during my prior academic years.
In your opinion, what amount of value do future employers put on Economic students? Also, would you suggest I improve in any area academically? Am I on a good path for success in the finance industry?
Best,
Joshua Voss
