Questions about Networking

I'm currently doing a winter internship at a small (but very good and reputable) PE group. It's about a 6 man shop and most of the guys were prior investment bankers. Since I am in my junior year, it's important that I lock up a SA gig as it will make life a lot easier (I attend a nontarget with 0 recruiting). I work a fairly decent amount of hours here, around 50 a week, so I can't find much time to call up boutiques and apply to their SA positions.

Do you think it would be a good idea to ask the ceo/managing director if I could take a day off and devote it to simply calling up banks and applying because the SA deadline is coming up soon?

Also, how would I go about networking and getting some names from these guys? I worried that it would be too awkward to bring up in conversation. I'm just worried that asking them in conversation if they knew anyone I could talk to would be a little too aggressive since I've only known them for 3 weeks now.

Thanks

Ask him, or someone you work with directly, how they would handle the situation. Let them suggest taking a day off.

1) I'd start with people I already know in the industry, 1st year or 2nd year analysts; see what they'd do.

2) 50 hours a week still leaves you with 1-2++ hours per night to do applying in your own time. For a first internship gig I wouldn't ask for a 'day off to apply (elsewhere)'. I don't think it looks good. I'm assuming you're doing 8 hours a day, from Monday to Saturday inclusive. If I were doing those hours, that leaves me a clean 2 hours in the day to do my own things (applying) at my leisure.

EDIT: Furthermore, you have the whole of Sunday to do applying. If you ask for a day off it's like asking the boss for 1 day's labour on the company account for you to apply elsewhere.
