Reaching/Networking Out To Alumni: Zero Access

I’m a freshman at the end of my first semester in college at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) and, being the future aspiring IB that I am, I have begun to do a series of things to start improving my chances into breaking into field. Everything has gone well and as planned, if that’s possible with these things, except for alumni networking. VCU does have an alumni association website and it does, eventually, offer to connect you to past alumni through e-mail BUT you have to be a “paying member”? Now I’m confused, is this how it is at all schools and I just had no idea or is there something I’m missing?

Schools usually don't offer access to the alumni network until you are a JR or SR, but if you are proactive and ask your Career Center they might make an exception for you. Can't hurt to try
