CBRE Wheel
What is the cbre wheel i havent come across? What would the qualifications be? any other programs?
@"newguy789" - My friend did it a few years ago for an LA office. It was really competitive, something close to 250 applicants. He ended up getting the job because he went to the same high school as the final decision maker. You go through a ton of different sectors of the industry for a year and then get to pick the one you want, provided the team you'd be working for liked you while you where there for a month or so interning. He ended up on a top team for investment sales (brokerage). It's on their website, just google wheel program cbre.
I have a friend who is currently in the wheel program. It's great experience, no doubt about it. HIGHLY competitive.
@OP - just look at the REPE Top 50...most of those firms have solid analyst programs. Also, search this forum. There is a ton of information on here. It's a difficult question to answer because "good analyst program" is subjective. I personally think it's what you make of the opportunity you have in front of you and how much you're willing to learn.
Most of these firms look for someone with solid real estate experience (finance/banking experience will help), ability to use Excel and Argus proficiently, able to conduct DCF valuations, and basic understanding of the real estate markets. They also look for intelligent people who will take initiative, can think on their feet, able to carry out a conversation, etc. It's not as difficult to break into as IB, but it's still competitive. Also, NETWORK. If you don't network, you will have a hard time, especially post graduate status.
Real Estate Analyst Development Program List (Originally Posted: 02/18/2014)
Hello All,
I have been trying to put together a list of firms that have full time positions for entry level right out of undergrad. I know some firms that do it are Tishman, Related, Vornado. But these are a few of the really big guys which will most likely be much harder to get into. Additionally, I have been trying to network into them, but that is also extremely hard. With that said, I have found many boutiques, but does anyone know where I could find a list, or could anyone fire off a few more off of the top of their head, for development firms that recruit out of undergrad that are not necessarily the largest players, but not the smallest either?
Thanks.
Entry level development roles usually require 2-3 years of experience b/c most shops are relatively lean and don't want to spend their time teaching some one the fundamentals of real estate finance, market analysis, construction, etc..
Your best bet for getting one of these jobs is:
1) Network your way in 2) Kick down doors - Find out who you want to work for and show up at their office and tell them you want to work there. If you have good people skills and are intelligent, theres a good chance they will keep their ears open for you
