REALITY CHECK! Realistic Possiblities

Hey everyone,
I am fairly new to this site and I am still reading over a few discussions on the forum that are relevant to me.
Since this site seems to be filled with professionals and experts as well as those that have gone through hell and back I thought that this would be great for me. I would like to hear some feedback - positive/constructive- from you guys and any possible opportunities that you might see for me that I might not be aware of. I know this might be kind of long so I would understand if you decide to skip this one.

I am an international student from Venezuela currently studying Business Administration at the University of San Francisco. I thought I would go for international business but read here that it was an 'useless' major because there weren't any real skills. So I decided to go with Finance at first because the stock market, financial planning and forex trading all sounded very interesting to me, especially forex trading and advising. However I made the mistake of following the advise of online articles and job predictions and what not and switched to accounting. I started planing for my CPA and making sure everything was perfect so that when 'Meet the firms' came by I'd land as many interviews as possible. Accounting was one of those classes that I enjoyed mainly because of the professor and while I did not LOVE the topic, it was something that I could do for the next two years or so. But things started to go badly in terms of grades. I'm not going to lie and admit that I got lazy in some business core classes and got a D, just enough to pass the class. This is entirely my fault and I regret every bit of it now. But things started to get complicated back at home and if you follow news you'd know that Venezuela is no paradise. Constantly one of the most dangerous countries in South America, plus a bad economy and political turmoil isn't the best combination either. I started stressing out and long story short, I was on academic probation, almost kicked out and now forced to be a Business Administration major with no concentration because of my poor performance in academics. I have a 2.5 GPA which I know in this economy, or any economy for that matter, is definitely not going to get me anywhere which is why I came to you all. One of the things that I am very good at, especially now, is keeping my head down and getting sh*t done because I have put myself in this situation. I hope I can work my way through all of this but I need to be realistic with myself and consider different paths.

Should I simply give up on the finance or accounting industry all together?
How did you break into the industry? If you performed poorly in school and got to where you are now how did you do it?
Where and how exactly do I start networking? I know informational interviews are a big tip here but how do I know where to stop? meaning do I interview an analyst or should I shoot for someone higher in the ranks too?
what tips and recommendations do you have for me?
Realistic job opportunities with a BSBA?
Would you guys recommend getting a certificate in accounting so that I can sit for the CPA?
I can attach my resume if needed.
Other questions that were not addressed are welcomed and I'd happy to answer any questions.

Have a great day everyone!

"break into the industry" is very broad, what exactly is it you want to accomplish? What kind of job do you want?

I'd spend another year in school if you can. If you are still in your first two years transfer and start over.

You probably know this already but from only the information you posted your reasons for a 2.5 GPA are weak. Even if your reason was strong it's just an argument for why you need to transfer schools and try again.
