Really upset over my internship this past summer

I am a sophomore entering my junior year. I interned with a small investment banking boutique this summer (think 10-12 employees in total, with only the 4 partners being paid). Despite knowing this was an unpaid position, I decided to take on this position as I felt I would be able to gain a lot more valuable experience and potentially even get to work on a deal in comparison to my offer to work in wealth management for a well known firm.

As the internship is coming to a close, I really have not done anything in terms of career development and in fact, I kind of feel exploited because I am doing some work for one of the partners that doesn't even have to do with the firm he is running. It's just so painful doing this "bit*h work". How about's do I bring this to the partner's attention and what is the best way to go abouts this situation?

Entrepreneur100:

You must have done something meaningful that you can write on your resume. Perhaps you used Excel to model, were involved in a deal case in some way, or even contributed to the Business Development of the firm? You must have learned something that you didn't know before you started your internship albeit unpaid.

Yeah you bring up a few good points- I can definitely add some stuff to my resume and such. The future firms I work for won't care if I work unpaid at a job, right?

You don't list your pay on your resume. You're only a junior, take this experience and use it to get a better internship next summer as you'll be able to talk about the experience.

If anything, save some of their files and study them.
