Recommended Security/Portfolio Analyst Reading
I am a second year MBA (Financial Management) student. My undergrad is marketing so I'm transitioning into a more technical world and still working on grasping the terminology and finer points of the finance world.
I hope to work in Asset Management upon graduation and work my way into portfolio management.
I want to supplement my classwork with additional reading, more technical than Wall Street bio. From what I gather 'Security Analysis' by Graham and Dodd is good.
Any other recommendations?
Preferably books that touch on both buy and sell side, corporate finance such as M&A, and portfolio management. It would be fantastic too if all were in the same book. If not any combination of 2 or 3 books you have read and would recommend. Again, I prefer more technical than entertainment.
Thanks.
Hey,
Try Intelligent Investor - Benjamin Graham, and if you are into value-investing Warren Buffet's Snowball is also a great read which employs both a bio of his life and how he decides on which companies to buy out. =)
I've found books that highlight the history of Wall Street helpful (IE too big to fail, when genius failed, house of cards, etc).
They might not give you concrete knowledge in one specific subject matter, but it'll help you understand all the moving pieces. And history always repeats itself.
Read intelligent investors for sure. That is a good one.
Use the search function and check out the wso reading list. CFA L1 in December would be your best bet if you have the time.
Margin of Safety by Klarman, any Baupost or Buffett letters, Value Investing by Greenwald
Thanks for all the input. I picked up 'Security Analysis' from my school's library today. I'll add the others to my list.
If you are reading Graham's Security Analysis, I'd forego Intelligent Investor, as the former is essentially a more in depth version of the latter.
Thanks, after seeing how thick this book is I was thinking that might be the case.
