REIT Final round interview no response, bad signs? HELP
Hey guys and gurus of WSO. I recently interviewed at a REIT for a Summer position and I really really like the firm. First round interview with three analysts and managers went well, I sent my thank you note after my interview and got almost instant replies from all three and very warm responses. I heard back from HR a week later for second round. Second and final round was done with two directors, I did not feel the vibe was as good as first round, not only did the interview end a bit early than expected (ended in 20 mins scheduled to be 30 mins) but I also got no email response after sending in my thank you note soon after the interview. I asked if they were anything else they would like to ask me but they said none and when asking when I will hear back, they said there are other candidates so next week. Are these bad signs? I know people working for REIT is probably not as busy as IB so I guess they should be able to find time to respond to email. What do you guys think? Anyone had similar experiences? Please share. Thanks in advance, any input would be greatly appreciated. I really really like the firm.
Don't read too much into the email response/no response thing, they could be busy. Sometimes it goes in their inbox and they completely forget about. My boss doesn't reply to me sometimes and I sit like twenty ft from him. Just wait it out.
Yeah, I'm like 20 feet from my boss and he literally will respond to an email a week or 2 later. Guys get crushed with work sometimes.
thanks!
thank you!
I wouldn't worry - not everyone responds to thank you notes.
I may be in the minority, but I personally think it is weird to respond to thank you notes unless you have a follow up question. Here is my reasoning: If I gave a gift and received a thank you note in the mail, I wouldn't write a response back to the person who sent the thank you. To me, this is the same situation, so unless I did have a follow-up question, then your thank you wouldn't warrant a response.
As to the interview ending early - that could be for a number of reasons and only a handful of them actually have to do with you.
I would really only start worrying if you didn't hear back in the time that the HR person prescribed. However, definitely don't be too overzealous about the timing and go start calling exactly the day they said you would hear back. Right now is spring break/Easter vacation season, so people may be in and out of the office and hiring decisions generally get pushed if someone is out of town/trying to leave for vacation.
