Rejected - Appropriate to Follow Up Anyway? Feedback please

Tell me what you think of this.

I interviewed with a firm for full time associate. I did 3 or 4 informationals, a corporate presentation, a cocktail hour. Had great discussions, and was invited to the first round interviews.

Had a good first round, got a call from HR saying thanks, but we're not inviting you to the final round.

Here's the question --- I'm thinking of sending a follow-up email to a couple of the guys I connected with saying basically "hey, I'm disappointed that I won't be working there, but it was great to meet you, and I'll keep in touch" something along those lines.

Opinions on this? Appropriate? Whiny? Grovelly? Sour grapes? Dwelling on the past? How would it look to you if you got one of those emails?

Do your worst, I can take it.
