Essential Finance Books For Summer Analysts
Hey Monkeys,
What do you guys consider the most absolutely essential financial related novels that every student should read before their first SA job? The Intelligent Investor is pretty typical but what other books are deemed necessary to gain an understanding of the markets and to prosper as a SA?
I'm assuming for IB, check out this page https://www.wallstreetoasis.com/faq-recommended-reading-investment-bank…
Thanks dude
Yeah I guess Intelligent Investor isn't bad.
I would recommend some books that paint a broad picture of the industry and give you some history as well, which are pretty quick reads like
Barbarians at the Gate, Den of Thieves, When Genius Failed (LTCM), The Smartest Guys in the Room (Enron), Market Wizards, New Market Wizards, etc
If you want to get more into technical information, Security Analysis is always a classic, the new edition has good commentary, you could also get into Seth Klarman, and David Swensen
what should I be reading for SUMMER position? (Originally Posted: 11/10/2007)
Besides bloomberg, nytimes deal book, and the economist, what other publication/periodicals should I be reading to adequately prepare for possible summer ibanking interviews?
Is it necessary to subscribe to magazines or is online enough?
Thanks mate
You forgot WSJ. Now you will never land a position.
lol. chill out dude. simply reading this stuff will not help you land a position. The type of people who get IB jobs get them b/c they're actually interested in reading this stuff.
If you read the journal and stay abreast of market developments you should be fine. If you want to really get a head start I would recommend Scoop Books Practitioner's Guide to Investment Bank or one of the Vault Guides. You will get an offer based on your academic profile, work ethic, and personality.
agree with junkbond. read the journal watch cnbc have an idea whats going on. also second the vault guides
Just read the news everyday. atrops lazy guide to reading the news: Yahoo popular news. I know my boss brings up random news stories everyday, I'm almost positive he does it in interviews. (He never interviewed me, since we had known one another through a friend who vouched for me. Plus, I had already worked in his office but for a different company) .

Required reading for a summer intern (Originally Posted: 11/23/2015)
Recently got admitted to a summer internship within IBD at a BB in London. Now I am looking for books that might help me to get a full time offer. I'm not looking for books about the industry in generall, but more about how everything works in reality and things that you don't read about very often like how you weight in the competences of the company management in the valution. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks in advance
Pretty sure there's like three dozen threads on suggested reading and a WSO FAQ on books related to banking + suggested products feature when looking at one of those books on Amazon
