research strategist, trader wanna be
Hello! I'm a recent engineering (PhD) graduate that is starting a job in quantitative strategy research, fixed income. However, I want to be a trader long term. How likely is this change? As far as I understand this job is more on a sale side, and they were very interested in my command of foreign languages. I do not want to turn into a sales woman. I'm not sure I made a right decision.
If you're smart and motivated, you'll likely have opportunities to get into trading. Obviously, this also depends on the specific desk/bank.
Quantitative strategy in credit is salesy??
What product? I think you'd be able to become a trader if you do well and show interest intelligently by hinting but not seeming like you want to ditch your current job.
More importantly, I think you could be an analyst/trader on the buy side with that background.
