Resident Advisor or Study Abroad?
I'm currently an undergrad looking to round off my final two years at college. Please don't take this the wrong way, I'm not looking to do either of the two to just "boost" my resume. I'm just in a predicament in which I can only do one or the other. Although I'm interested as to which how a corporate recruiter (Finance/Acc) looks upon both activities. Im assuming it's more beneficial to develop a global mindset but at the same a lot of responsibility is involved with the RA position, and it shows leadership, people skills, and conflict resolution skills.
What do you guys think?
hey man in a similar predicament as well bump
I would do RA..Study Abroad doesnt show any kind of leadership, at least RA is a voluntary activity showing initiative. Study Abroad just looks like you wanted to party in Europe for a semester
Do NOT listen to this. First off you should do whatever you really want to do, which I'm sure you know.
Relationships are the lifeblood of the business world, meaning the majority of people you come across will be very social and outgoing and no one is going to see study abroad on our resume and ding you. In my opinion, I actually find it more likely that you would get dinged for being an RA (someone may equate being an RA to being unsocial. Not saying its fair, but if you're judging people only by their resume then assumptions like these will be made).
And I'm not telling you to not do the RA thing, but study abroad kicks ass, definitely one of the top three experiences in my life.
study abroad. anyone who says otherwise likely didn't study abroad (or didn't do it right).
Study abroad...... when in your life will you be able to travel for a lower cost and have an awesome time with other college students? Never.
The ONLY reason you would choose RA over study abroad would be finances. If you could use the free housing as an RA and not pay for study abroad, then so be it. But you would be foolish to not study abroad just to watch some children in a dorm.
Study abroad.
