Resume Review: Real Estate Major to IB?
I graduated last year with a BS in Real Estate Studies but unfortunately it took me until AFTER I graduated to realize my interest in investment banking (mostly M&A, non-RE related). I now regret not majoring in Finance (or Accounting, Economics)...but what can you do.
Also working against me, I have pretty much zero finance related work experience. Without getting into it too much, I have had to deal with some family health issues this past year which have prevented me from starting my career. Basically I feel as if I'm playing catch up.
I've been reading up a lot on finance/investment banking the past few months trying to soak up as much knowledge as possible. I just finished reading 'Investment Banking' by Rosenbaum & Pearl, which I heard was a great resource. How should I include my new knowledge on valuation/modeling into my resume? (I know the basics but obviously don't have the practice/ at the level of say a finance major)
B/c of my limited qualifications, I know I can't be picky and I'm looking to get into any investment bank (boutique, MM, BB). Ideally I would love a FT position but even an internship would be awesome to serve as a resume builder and stepping stone to FT. It seems as though many banks don't offer internships to graduates (my biggest regret during my undergrad)
Any feedback would be much appreciated! What steps to take next? I know I need to start networking like crazy! Should I be looking at positions in the RE group within banks, even though I'm not interested in the RE side anymore? Am I hopeless?
Should I add Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PP)? I was told by my campus career services advisor not to but I trust you guys more.
Ha, I think that's everything. Thanks so much for your time/feedback!

All I got.
Unfortunately, your resume doesn't really scream Real estate either. Can you replace the high school thing by chance? That seems like a lot of bullet points for something you did so long ago. I think Fez has pretty much summed up your options though.
