SA Networking Timeline
Hi All,
I was wondering if anyone could shed light on whether all non-core resumes that are selected for interviews are selected at once, or whether it is done across several rounds?
I ask in the following context: I applied to Wells Fargo Securities 2015 SA for IBD without an alumni contact. I found an alum a day or two ago and was planning on reaching out in the next few days, but I have recently heard from people that resumes are going to be selected at WF by Thursday. My question now is whether it is worth my time to reach out?
Different banks probably do it differently. My bank did it all at once.
Isn't this super early for SA recruiting? I don't think my earliest interviews were until like Jan/Feb, but I know a few of the guys I was IB with had interviews late in the fall semester. Guess I just didn't think it was this early.
In any case, still worth it to reach out, but given the timeline you communicated, might as well reach out today. It may still be helpful for SA, but even if not, maybe it's a helpful connection come FT recruiting.
SA interviews are already under way for 2015.
BTbanker, yes I know. I am in the interview process at several different banks. I am just trying to figure out the marginal benefit of trying to develop a contact this late in the game at a given bank where applications are already being reviewed.
I think anyone still has a shot to get an interview in January if you start reaching out in November-December.
I wouldn't say it's that "late" in the game right now.
which banks have started interviewing? I thought that the only people being interviewed now were exceptional candidates that are going abroad in the spring.
I think interviews generally start mid-December. The rest of this month applications are being accepted, and phone-interviews are being held. I just got that email from WF of a preference survey so they should be contacting people within the next week.
OP, where do you stand in the recruiting process? I'm a non-target as well, have been talking to a few people but nothing to serious yet. I feel like I'm behind but then I talk to some firms and they haven't even opened applications for SA yet.
Here's what's happened at a midwest semi-target. Credit Suisse finished their process for everything (IBD, research, PWM, back office) in late October, Goldman Sachs is finishing up late November, Morgan Stanley 1st round is in the next couple weeks (no word on when super day is), Citi finished early November, and JPM, Barclays, Wells Fargo, and UBS have begun accepting resumes. The word is that their processes for our school will be finished by late december at the latest.
So, while some schools may be starting late, mine is not one of them. I guess the message to take home is that all schools have varying timelines. So OP, whether or not it is too late in the game will depend on what's going down at your school. I would personally recommend continuing to network up until the day of their handing out first round invitations. It can make a difference.

I am planning on making a trip to NY to network and get some face time with my contacts. Not sure when to go though. Early January or before winter break? Is it best to go before the application deadline or is it best to go after but before they start interviewing?
Also, does anyone have a comprehensive list of deadlines? Here is what I have so far, please feel free to fill in the blanks or correct me where I am wrong.
