I accepted a PWM Summer Analyst position at a BB in NYC. What will I need for my wardrobe and numbers of each?

Easy
When I interned in PWM, most interns were clueless about how to dress for a workplace. Don't make the same mistake. Most brokers/advisors wear full suits to work and you wouldn't be hurting yourself by doing the same - especially since I'm assuming your goal is to impress and make connections within the BB. You can get by with a minimum 2 suits (blue and gray), 4-5 dress shirts (white/blue), 4-5 ties and a pair of decent black dress shoes. Make sure everything fits properly.
Tooooo Fancy....
You're interning in PWM during the summer, having been there myself, let me impart some of my wisdom. Unless your working for guys that are seeing clients in the office all of the time, you will need 7-8 pairs of nice chinos or dress pants, 7-8 dress shirts and 7-8 ties, just enough to rotate your collection around so that it's not the same thing every day. Also, two pairs of shoes, one brown and one black, again for coordination. Having a suit for daily wear is nice, but not necessary, as you'll never be wearing your jacket at your desk. I'd keep it for days you get the privilage of meeting clients on.
Since this is the summer, you might want to consider finding out about how strict the dress code is. Where I interned, no one wore ties on Friday and it was the norm for no one to wear suits in the summer unless they had a meeting.
Common Sense (everything varies by office)
You need to ask the people you will be working with, not us. Dress code varies by firm, group, position, office, everything. So, if in PWM you work for someone who sees clients all the time you need suits (enough to rotate through weekly). If on the otherhand they do everything by phone, for SA you might be able to wear a polo 4 days a week. I know BB IBD people who are able to wear polos all summer long and likewise those who have to wear suits everyday. Ask us what the dress code in Industrials at DB is, or On the Forex desk at JPM, and you're golden.
These are not questions for us, if you gave a firm and a more specific position we might be useful. Otherwise, you need to use common sense and ask the people you will be working with.
