Salutations, MonkeysI

I've been lurking around on this forum for a couple of months now, and thought now would be an appropriate time for an introduction and hopefully slowly get settled in here due to how useful this site could be to a hopeful employee like me.

I will be an upper-classman this coming fall at a slightly reputable mid-sized school. The business school is well-respected, as it places amongst the top undergrad business programs in the country, but the rest of the school doesn't really carry over that reputation. The school isn't exactly a mecca for recruiters, but the school does a very good job with the Big Four accounting firms always having recruiters at the school (not so much when it comes to I-Banking, which I will get to shortly).

As a Finance major, it is my intention to hopefully go work on Wall Street one day (how cliche, I know). To be COMPLETELY honest, I've known that I've wanted to do this for maybe seven or eight years now, ever since high school. And while I do have this passion for getting a job on Wall Street, my relationship towards my aspirations are a bit peculiar.

In school, I'm involved in the investment club. I don't have a leadership role, nor am I an overly-active member in the club (I would say my attendance is between 45-55% due to other extra-curriculars). However, I do have a prominent position as a business manager for the school's newspaper (where I oversee budgeting, sales, advertising, setting salaries, and overseeing a staff of 8-10 people.) My GPA is nothing to write home about - it's an average 3.0. With that being said, what I do have an advantage in (or what I like to believe I have an advantage in) when it comes to comparing with my peers, is that as a rising junior, I have already held three internship positions (I was awarded a four-year internship as a graduating senior from high school). Interestingly enough, the internships have been scattered - ranging from investment advisory at a Financial firm - to architecture and consulting (where I have nothing to do with architecture, just the consulting side where I get to participate in client meetings/pitches where I learn a little bit about real estate as well and do excessive Microsoft Excel work.)

I (Warning: cliche statement follows) want to become an Investment Banker on WS. I've always been interested in stocks, bonds, mutual funds, etc. and enjoy the idea of research and taking risks. I enjoy interacting with people and have a natural ability to lead. One of my strengths is how easily I can adapt to others and build relationships.

So during my tenure on this forum, I hope to learn more about what is necessary to succeed in the Wall Street world, how to get there, who to talk to, and all the other bells and whistles and ins-and-outs that I have to pick up on as well.

As aforementioned earlier, I'm not a direct target from these elite I-Bank firms, but I know that I have what it takes to succeed in the given environment and hope that GPA is NOT the indicator that will hinder my chances.

So, potential employers/recruiters, based on this short little biography, how do I sound? Any honesty is appreciated. If I need to be berated, please don't hold back. Any sort of feedback is encouraged and I want to make sure that I can do whatever I can to ensure that I have the best opportunity to thrive.

Thanks and I look forward to chatting with you all soon!

MF
