Bainbridge ZKS.
HFF has an office in SD.
Feel free to PM me if you find a company and want more info. I know the shops there well and have a good network. Might need to go to OC or LA for what it seems like you're looking for though.
Will be in touch with you. 22+ years of this East Coast weather has worn on me. Ready to get out.

Can anyone land any insight on which reputable REPE / operator / development firms are headquartered or have a large presence in SD?
Without reflecting too much I can think of: Merlone Geier Partners, Westcore Properties, and Trammell Crow
Would love to broaden this list.
Have you tried looking in the WSO Company Database? I dont think we have as many real estate firms, but worth a shot (you can do a radius around SD zip code)...good luck!
BioMed Realty (REIT, now part of Black Stone, ) CIRE Interwest Capital MG Properties Realty Income (REIT) HG Fenton and Co Brixton Capital (Westcore family) Capstone And tons and tons of syndicators on the MF side
Terramar Retail Centers
CCFG Investments - interviewed there. Culture is good, but they look for mainly mid to senior level for experience due to the amount of work they dump onto people when they join in.
H.G. Fenton has gone through a lot of management changes, so be wary when you apply.
Have you heard of Bainbridge?

Always wanted to end up in SD (Currently in Nor Cal). These are all going on my list.

Real Estate in Southern California (Originally Posted: 05/22/2012)
I'm a rising junior at a semi-target on the East Coast. However, I set my sights on the West Coast and especially SoCal (San Diego and Orange County). I'm trying to break into commercial real estate after graduation. Who are the biggest players in the area? Is it hard to get hired right out of undergrad (I'm also international so I'll need Visa sponsorship)? Any tips on how to break in?
Real estate research firm http://www.greenstreetadvisors.com/ . I know someone who got into here right out of school. Located in Newport Beach
Good, any other inputs?
Many, many, many players in this area but you may need to be more specific about what you want to do within real estate or else the list could be really long.
Not sure yet, but I'm thinking of development, RE Investments, RE IB, RE PE, REIT. However, still pretty open on this one and want to learn more about the different types (have 2 more years of undergrad but I'm seriously looking to score something next summer as well).
Cornell Real Estate Job Board allows to narrow search by location and should provide a good list of positions in SoCal including internships.
