Thanks. I hate hypocrites. I hope this isn't indicative of her family's behavior as a whole.

I'm pretty sure it is.

I don't know if you took the time to actually read any of the readers' comments but they were appalling. Most of them attacked the looks of both the mother and the child, saying they are pigs and wondered if they ate at a trough, and called her a hypocrite for spreading her legs, etc. etc. etc.

I guess I view this in a different manner than those posters as well as UFO. I can't say what she did was good but I do think what she is doing is better. In my mind, a hypocrite is someone that says one thing and then does another...not does one thing and says another. Yeah, I realize there doesn't seem to be a huge difference in one vs. the other, but there is. Having someone who has actually experienced something, in this case being a young, un-wed mother and having her explain the difficulties of such to those that may intentionally, or unintentionally, follow in her footsteps is a good thing. To have someone that has experienced the pain and headache associated with child birth and raising a baby, explain to others why not to travel that path is not hypocritical, it's simply rational.

Now, if she was a spokesperson for this organization before she got pregnant (I don't believe she was) then she would be a hypocrite, no argument there. This would be in the same vein as booing the motivational speaker that came to your high school pep rally to explain the dangers and consequences of driving drunk because he was the drunk driver that caused an accident that nearly killed someone else (although Palin's actions aren't really endangering anyone). The point is for young people to learn from others decisions/"mistakes", not to have to learn them all on their own, otherwise we would have posters that said, "We've heard crack is dangerous, but you better try it for yourself".

Anyways, I don't think she is running around saying, "Look at this cute baby, this could be yours, plus $250k+ if you got knocked up...but you should think about NOT getting pregnant because it's the better thing to do." The fact that we know how much money she was paid is simply a function of the sensationalistic media trying to drum up hits on their webpage.

Politics aside, she is doing the right thing. It's too bad many people (liberals especially) can't get past their unfounded hatred for her mother. If this was the daughter of a prominent liberal politician the story would be slanted at a much different angle and the aforementioned commentators would be championing the young girl's resolve for overcoming the difficulties of raising a child as a single mother and for finding a way to put food on the table and clothes on her baby.

This has everything to do with politics. Her family operates in the political area of influence......do you think that she was chosen at random? I do believe that if she's not being hypcritical, then she's blind: telling young impressionable people not to do something while making a finanancial killing off of it sends the message 'do as I say, not as I do': her credibility is as shot out as a gansta rappa writing in a song not to do drugs or shoot people while in the meantime he's selling drugs and killing people. My point is that the Palin family is functioning as a unit in their efforts to secure money and power: all fine and well, mine does this as well. But if one member is going down the sad, well trodden road of being yet another conservative who preaches morality while not having lived it, then we must turn our attention to Sarah Palin to learn what her opinion of this is.

If it's not about her / her family's worldview, why not come out in support of single mothers? Is it because it contradicts her mother's worldview? Would that not do more good considering that she can actually speak to an issue she has actual experience with?

I am all for a single mother feeding her child, but this particular single mother does not want for anything. What I'm looking for here is intellectual honesty. I personally do not care at all for her mother: for exactly this type of thing, and think the GOP has much better qualified people to run for president.....I'm apolitical, so please don't put yourself in ANT's category by calling names everytime you disagree with someone. When I think 'liberal' I think an Al Sharpton supporter, not a Ron Paul or Bernie Sanders guy.......

HOWEVER: in the spirit of people learning from their mistakes, I will not argue the point farther than my original comment: this sends a mixed signal to younger people

This is just but one example of how crooked our world is sometimes. I bet this is some indirect way to curry political favor from conservatives.

I'm a libertarian and tend to vote Republican, but both parties are crooked as hell and there are a lot of people out there making obscene amounts of money for essentially no work, just because of who they know. See the documentary Casino Jack if you haven't already...
