Screwed up on my CV... should I withdraw and resubmit?

Basically I sent my CV to a few firms like GS, BNP, Credit Suisse, for Spring Week placements (they're for first years). I just realised that I made a couple of errors on my CV - nothing like typos but really stupid mistakes like weirdly phrased sentences.

If I were to withdraw and make corrections and then resubmit, do you think they'll hold it against me?

I think withdrawing your application will make it even worse. What I heard is that firms do not consider such applications any longer. What you can do is to contact their HR and ask for further assistance, which often works.

An email to HR will not help you with this as they do not care too much and the usually they will tell you to withdraw and re-apply.

You can do two things:

  • First, you just leave it as it is. People do not spend more than 5-10 seconds on each CV and what counts is school, grades and experience and after that they sometimes screen for typos. However nobody will take the time to analyze your wording in detail during the first screening.

  • Second, you withdraw your application and re-apply with a different account and email. This will usually work but there is a very small chance that your application will not considered due to this.
