Best SeamlessWeb Meals - Midtown
Rather than use trial and error to order meals for the next few months, I figured I'd ask the experienced. What are your favorite meals from Seamless if you're located in midtown ($20-$25 allowance)? Please post name of eatery and favorite dishes. The more the better.
Little Thai Kitchen - Pad See Ew with beef
Great thread... All assuming a $25 dinner meal allowance:
Mediterranean - Ali Baba's Terrace (Not Ali Baba's, two different places), Akdeniz Sushi - Hatsuhana, Haru Chinese - Chin Chin, Ollie's Salad - Just Salad, Chopt Sandwiches - FreeFoods Mexican - Dos Caminos, Blockheads (if you are feeling cheaper or just want a ton of food) Italian - Toni's Di Napoli (I know, totally touristy but huge portions of decent food) Pizza - Pizza 33, anything Patsy's
Sushi - Hakata Falafel - Crisp (specifically, African Sandwhich - you won't be disappointed) Mexican - Toloache (one of the best things I've ever eaten, no joke -> fish tacos) Seafood - Wild Edibles (specifically, mussels appetizer w/ marinaire sauce and the goat cheese salad w/ asian citrus dressing. yes, the mussels are good, i get them every single week. make sure to ask for extra bread to soak up all the extra marinaire sauce. and btw, its marinaire, not marinara. totally different)
I would definitely second Beluga's list. In my banking days, Toloache's was high on that list (esp. the churros with chocolate dipping sauce), as was Wild Edibles (fresh oysters). I remember Fresh Basil's and Roberto Passon (sp?) being pretty good for Italian. I think there are a few turkish places (akdeniz or dervish) as well that have great falafel. Hakata is definitely pretty good for sushi and the portions were pretty big. For something less healthy, I liked goodburger and that mac n' cheese place.
Japanese - Haru - best hands down for your $25 allowance
I gotta say, Haru is good, but I think Hatsuhana is better quality. They also have a dinner special that like 3 rolls and a salad or soup that comes out to like $22-23 all in. Perfect.
Fresh Basil's if you want a sh*tton of italian food. Bukhara or Amman for Indian food. Dos Caminos for Mexican (although a little bit pricy and overrated). Angelo's for pizza.
Chin Chin (try the Grand Marnier shrimp) for good American Chinese and Grand Sichuan for strange, authentic chinese food.
Sherwoods for random stuff, cheap eats, and beer.
I like Toasties sandwiches too
Dunhill or Sherwoods - with $25, you can get dinner, a sandwich for the next day, fruit for an entire week (good for breakfast) and other snacks. Even gum. I haven't bought gum or fruit since I started here. And you can put in a random order then call them and change it all to beer.
Ali Baba and Akhdeniz are great for Mediterranean. Marrakesh is another good Mediterranean / Moroccan place - Combo meat platter is great value.
Ethos for Greek
Great comments, especially regarding Sherwoods. Anyone else?
Just to add, I like: Wild Ginger - for Indian / Asian food Thai 51 - Thai food, duh
What do you order from Seamless? (Originally Posted: 05/16/2013)
Spurred by another topic, what do you industry folks order from Seamless when 6-7PM hits? Typical locations are FiDi or Midtown.
Suggestions/recommendations? Non-recommendations?
I usually order from the Amish market (FiDi) or DigInn.
Chipotle, Subway, and BB's Cafeteria
Thats literally my weekly diet with some Bryant Park meal thrown in sometime.
Seamless can't get me enough calories.
Sophie's in fidi is pretty good. good cuban sandwich. takes them a little while to get the food over to me though
Midtown - fresh basil, lasagna, calista, dig inn, energy kitchen, cinema brasserie, dominoes
Energy kitchen, Peanut butter chocolate protein shake is banging.
Chicken pad thai all day every day
err' day
Turkish food - oh so good....
are we allowed to use our meal allowance on places not on Seamless? (ie Whole Foods in FiDi?)
Yea bro. Get your $25's worth and stack up on groceries.
Seriously, you can order grocieries? I figured people just ordered food that would age well and use that as later meals.
The Wholefoods near GS basically doubles as a restaurant/cafeteria. A ton of people get lunch and dinner from there. You are allowed to use your entire allowance, so why not pick up groceries with the extra? Keep in mind a salad will run you $12 there, so not like you can pick up a ton of stuff on top of that.
I work for a top BB bank and they check HARD for people that do this. Be careful.
Fidi - there are some mediocre sushi options, trying to stay "not as fat"
Trying to make my way through the Toasties sandwich list.

healthy food - THe Pump Sushi - Hatsuhana Late Nite: Sherwoods Middle Eastern - Akdeniz Chinese - Chin chin lunch/sandwiches - carnegie deli italian - ninos tuscany
Steak - AJ Maxwells & Landmarc Sushi - Hatsuhana & Wasabi Lobby Middle Eastern - Agreed on Akdeniz / Dervish is decent but slow BBQ - Hill Country Health - Health food tastes like crap, so just go with sushi Italian - Roberto Passon or Mangia (good prixe fixe menu) Chinese - Shun Lee West French - Landmarc, Montparnasse Pizza - Angelos Mexican - Mi Nidito Burgers - Landmarc, Montparnasse, Island Burger, Good Burger
Sushi - Hatsuhana, Haru, Yushi (quick premade menu when you're really hungry, good points program) Heath - Just Salad Italian - Naples 45 Grocery Shopping - Sherwoods, Mahattan Market BBQ - Texas BBQ

R you kidding? PUMP is amazing! You probably ordered something f-ed up.
Try salad from anywhere. Yogurt, soy chips, protein bar..etc.
Eating healthy is not hard.
Agreed. PUMP is pretty good. Try their Protein Oatmeal in the morning and for dinner try the pizza or steamed spinach sandwich.
Try JOSIE's or Better Burger, food is healthy and again decent.
Yeah, I was suprised at how many healthy options there are in almost all the restaurants...order a salad with some kind of meat/protein and have the dressing on the side, from anywhere...or grilled chicken or steak or something...
chicken over brown rice. pretty bad shit. but yeah salads are always an option. hard tho with the 25 bucks plus ghosht summer analyst accounts :-)

We should start reviewing different Seamless restaurants around everyones' respective bank.
Some Paul Weiss associates already did huge review of Seamless
I'm not a banker yet but I live in Midtown (near LEH, MS, others). I have ordered from Seamless several times, I could definitely help if someone is interested in compiling a list.
By all means post what you have experienced, let everyone know where the good food is!

my firm (top 10 BB) has a policy regarding seamless that orders can be placed starting at 630 but you have to eat the food in the office and you can only order if you stay until 8
on certain occasions, i have ordered food, left before 8 and took the food home and other nights i have eaten in the office and left at 730 or so
my question is, do firms actually check to make sure you left at 8 and didn't take the food home? if someone from my group sees my walking out of the building with food can this be really bad?
Essentially, should i continue to 'cheat' the seamless system or can there actually be consequences from doing so and i should follow policy
thanks guys.
Honestly, no one really checks when you actually leave, but don't abuse your policy. If someone wanted a reason to fire you it is really easy to check time you logged out or the last file you saved.
Although the probability is very low, why risk it? If it's the choice between leaving at 7:30 and 8, find something to keep yourself occupied for 30 minutes. Manage your personal finances, surf the net for pointless stuff, or read though posts on this site.
And if you're constantly leaving at 7:30 and IBD you're REALLY lucky.
what about taking food to go? big time no no?
Taking food is against firm policy, and I am not sure how strict firms are about it.
Seamless - Is this true? (Originally Posted: 11/23/2013)
How does Seamless work exactly? Do you just get $25 or whatever credit on the account each night? And a friend said that for them, if others do not use their credit it gets spread around to everyone else in the group. Is this true?
You get a certain amount each night. If you order from one place with other people you can use the total amount collectively in the transaction (4 ppl x $25).
http://www.seamless.com/food-delivery/Howitworks.htm
^_^
How does that link help answer his question?
Anyway OP, it might vary depending on your firm, but the way the Seamless policy worked for us was we got one expense-able order per night of up to $25. It doesn't carry over to the next day, you don't get to transfer it to anyone else, etc. Just a one-time order of up to $25 per night on whatever food/drinks you want. So if you spend $16 at some Chinese place, get hungry, and order another $9 of shit later that night, you're out $9. As you can imagine, this rule encourages people to spend right up to the limit every single night to make sure they don't "waste" their one order. So it probably costs more money (and leads to fatter analysts) than if we were just given a $25 cap to spend however we wanted. But your food orders are eventually billed to the client if/when your deal closes anyway, so the bank doesn't really give a shit. Still inconvenient though.
Anyway, it takes every summer analyst about 5 seconds to realize that the best way to get around the "one order per person" rule is by ordering as a group across a bunch of different places. Say there's 5 people ordering dinner. You get 3 people to chip in their $25 order for Shake Shack, right? That's $75 worth of burgers, fries, drinks, and shakes. Which is enough for everyone. So there's $50 to play with at another place. If you, being the intrepid young intern that you are, dig around on Seamless, you'll find "restaurants" that deliver 7-11 type shit: PowerBars, soda, Red Bull, that sort of thing. So now everyone can stock up on $10 of caffeinated garbage to power you through an all-nighter.
Another trick: sometimes the VPs (and almost always Ds/MDs) go home to eat with their wife and kids. They still have $25 to spend though, and LBJ has been known from time to time to order himself a fuckload of sushi on his MD's tab...

I have read on here about a seamless web guide that some lawyers put together. Does anyone know how I could get my hands on it?
Thanks
Interested as well
does your school have campusfood.com? it's the exact same thing except your firm makes an account for you
leave it up to lawyers to write a guide on "how to point, click, and order food"

where can I get a good (or at least decent) steak via seamless web in midtown?
Also, any favorites on there?
LENNY'S
well, its not a steak place, but the sandwiches are money and they have the liter sized Vitaminwater, so its all good on the company tab
Ben and Jacks 44th and 3rd.
As randomwalk said, definitely Lenny's, it was my go-to-shop as a SA this summer.
Seamless Restaurant Reviews/Guide (Originally Posted: 08/29/2011)
There used to be a restaurant guide circulating around Wall Street that a few bankers created. They basically ranked every restaurant and organized it by cuisine. Anyone have a copy?
The new Seamless ranking system isn't that bad. Seems to round everything to either 5, 4.5, 4, etc. and then sort by number of reviews.
Then within each restaurant you can see what's popular in the bottom right.

Ok, this is it. Can you post your favorite food from seamless (NYC)? I had the nastiest sandwich tonight and I'm tired of just trying randomly. What should I get next time??
Ocha if you are in midtown
Yea... depends on your firm location... If you have these, I'd try: Carl's, Zaitzeff, Lili's, Koodo, A Spicy Route, Komodo, and Koyzina Grill
Never order Zeytuna/Amish market. Worst food ever.
that fit in the daily budget:
the tops italian - fresh basil's trattoria (heavy, but amazing) indian - buhkara grill (no lie, better food v most upscales) chinese - tang pavillion (so fast! and good) mediterranean - marrakesh (lil more exp, but worth it) mexican - blockheads
the rest sushi - monster sushi gourmet pizza - california pizza kitchen healthier - the pump/energy kitchen (also quiznos is open late and delivers) bbq/wings - dallas bbq
if i remember any more, ill post.
i second all of the above except the tahini and bison burger from the pump made me wanna throw up.
Definitely second fresh basil's and will throw serafina/roberto passon's/mangia e bevi in the italian section.
indian - yuva (pricey so probably should get in with others)
chinese - wu liang ye
mediterranean - second marrakesh and would throw akdeniz in there as well.
mexican - toloaches
sushi - yummy sushi from rock center (good quality) or hakata grill (big pieces)
wings - atomic wings is great
sherwood is great for groceries.
Sweet, I'm totally bookmarking this page...
Aki Sushi is really good too.
And yes, I'm in midtown.
there is a guide to seamless a lawyer made several years ago tht always floats around the street. i dont currently have it anymore, but try to get your hands on it. im sure someone on this board still has it.
great thread btw. i third fresh basil's and marrakesh. my #1 recommendation, however, is Casaville (Moroccan food) - the lamb tagine is incredible! very expensive though.
I really like the salmon ceaser salad from salmon river. Make sure you ask for them to cut the salmon up and mix it in. I hear they have a great seared tuna, but it's a bit expensive.
Ohh and if you are feeling lush or particularly classy, Wild Edibles has great oysters and shrimp cocktail. Won't really fill you up but still fun nonetheless.
If you feel like a baller blow up your MD and D to get a Delmonico's Lobster and Steak dinner.
Thanks everybody. That should keep me going for a few days :)
best sandwiches........Indecision from Carve on W47th - get two of them and you're set for the next 12 hours
bump
For lunch shinju sushi has a pretty decent special. They deliver to the FD. Additionally, a zaitzeff burger late night often hits the spot.
