Seattle Based Asset Managers & HFs

Thought it would be useful to generate a list of asset management firms and/or hedge funds with headquarters or decent sized research operations in Seattle (or broader Pac NW)? For some reason I can't think of many firms that are up there, and not sure why... beautiful place, decent cost of living, good local talent, secondary tech hub with local HNW individuals etc... I guess it just comes down to inertia and first mover advantage... same reason there isn't much IM in my old stomping ground of San Diego.

If any of you are inst. sales with west coast coverage, it would be great to hear from you...

I'll start with those I am aware of:

Russell Investments
Rainier
Cascade Investments
Summit Capital (never heard of them, but turned up on goog)

You actually hit most of the firms in Seattle - it's not a finance city.

Vulcan (Paul Allen's family office - currently expanding public equities team, but TMT only).

Edge Asset Management - An asset manager owned by Principal Financial. I think a couple other insurers (Symetra?) may also run investment management divisions out of Seattle.

Steelhead Partners (A small $1b fund - I don't know anything about them, just stumbled across their 13f).

I would think carefully about heading out that way though. If you want to move down the line, it can be difficult to get gain traction with recruiters.

Nice - thanks. It just seems strange to me that there wouldn't be some bigger shops up there, but I guess it's just inconvenient for everyone involved. I'm not too seriously thinking about relocating (at least not in the near future) but I have family up there and always enjoy the area when I visit. Bay Area housing prices are beginning to get to me, i guess.
