Seeking Advice on Offers

Hey Everyone,

Would really appreciate some insight on my recruiting situation. Thanks for any help.

Background: I'm a Junior at an Ivy with strong GPA and resume, I am in my Junior year and really want to pursue consulting (corp strat in the long term). I interviewed with 3/4 big 4, some smaller firms (OW), and McKinsey. I had a bunch of final rounds, but did not receive offers. It was a lack of case prep and I think I will be able to go through FT recruiting with much more practice under my belt.

With that being said, I also applied to some internal finance/strategy roles as I felt it was the most applicable next thing. I have offers from both Goldman and Amex's finance groups, just finished a superday with BlackRock's corp strat/dev team, and may possibly have a Superday for Mastercard's consulting group (Advisors). Which role puts me in the best position to re-recruit for consulting FT next year? Thanks so much for any insight!

I think you're kind of putting the cart before the horse here, but the honest answer is both will be good. I think the internal strat roles will give you more to talk about in your interviews, especially for the all-important "why consulting" question, but a good internship at any name brand company will probably be enough to get you past the resume smell test at a target. I honestly wouldn't worry too much about it — having just gone through the FT recruiting cycle at a target, it seems like if you were able to get an interview for an internship, you'll have no problem getting one for FT (and if you made it to a decision round, all the better). After that, what's on your resume matters much less than 1) your case interview performance and 2) how you spin that resume in your behavioral.

Keep your chin up, stay fresh on your casing, and you'll be just fine.

Solarbear made very good points. Personally, I like the consulting/corp dev internships more than pure finance since they are easy to use during interviews and show that you're into something very similar to what consultants do.
