Sent personal email from work address

So I sent a personal email from my work address to my girlfriend (didnt switch to hotmail from work on the iphone).

Assume the contents were fairly bad. A 6 or 7/10 in terms of how bad they were, but nothing too explicit.

Am I worrying for no reason? Any IT people here that can put my mind at ease. Just 3 images, no text.

Can't believe I was this stupid. Long day....

lol artistic. If you're at a BB or other large institution I may preemptively ask your boss, especially if he or she is someone you can talk to. But I've been working in small places since basically the dawn of the email monitoring era and it wouldn't matter in the places I've worked, so others who are more in the know about large co's would have a better idea than I. It would actually be a point of amusement in the places I've worked.

My question: why use email rather than text?

What a lovely explanation. +1

Anyway, I hope nothing happens. Maybe if you keep rockin your work no one's gonna bring that up. Good luck!

Fortes fortuna adiuvat.

My largest concern would be who she sends this to when you break up. Make sure she has deleted it.

Those who can, do. Those who can't, post threads about how to do it on WSO.

Asshole for front paging this but I'm glad you've all had a good laugh.

Just giving you shit because it's fun to see you're a Certified User so it's nice knowing you're not an 18 year old asking bullshit (and it's funny because most of the people replying here are also- probably means most of us have done something similar...).

But I'd honestly say this is one of the multiple reasons to always have a personal phone and not just a work phone, and in your case to have international coverage. I've done international stuff for the last 15 years and it's always good to have an extra phone no matter the cost. And while losing one phone isn't enough of a reason, there are always pornographic scenarios, as if porn's not enough of a reason. When one is married, and doesn't screw other women, and stuck with a bunch of Chinese businessmen for two weeks in Shenzhen and HK when they bring the women around and one says no? One definitely does not want to deal with that on the company laptop or iPhone back at the hotel room. God bless these big screen smart phones.

This thread is gold. This comment as well - I'm dying.

My guess is you will be fine.

Here is the thing, there are tons of emails sent out during business hours. So much so that no one could possibly go thru them all. Unless you flagged the system by sending out a virus or using certain keywords it won't show up on anyone's radar.

Unless you accidentally sent it to a co-worker and they freak out and report you no one is going to dig into your email history.

Just look at the CIA director email hack. The guy was forwarding emails to his AOL account and no one at the CIA was aware and they would be one of the few agencies (NSA,FBI etc) to monitor every email that comes in and out.

I guess they don't though probably because there are so few people who would get security clearance high enough to read the emails in the first place.

Disclaimer: I work on the software development side. I am not a network engineer, however my Dad is a network engineer and I have heard the stories of what people get away with.

There is not knowing this was going on, and then there is "I don't see anything....wink wink". In this case it's the latter.

Get your facts first, then you can distort them as you please.

I still use Hotmail. You sheeps keep following the herd with Gmail.

When you move out of your parents basement you won't be able to use their 100 free hours of AOL anymore

My parents are my best friends. I love them.

I never sent out pictures of myself to anyone from work address but had an ex and just random guys that I met sending me their explicit images to my work address! I was mortified when they told me about it, but these emails never got through to my inbox. Must have been filtered. I'm in IBD at BB.

Random guys you met? Did you give them your card as they left your apartment?
